Annabelle Palmer

Annabelle Palmer, 76, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Monday, November 25, 2019 at Silver City Care Center. 

She was born April 16, 1943 in Mattoon, Illinois to Flossie Ealy.  Annabelle enjoyed playing solitaire, bingo, making puzzles and watching Nascar. 

She is survived by two sons, James Palmer of Bayard; Randy Palmer and wife Berna of Santa Clara; nine grandchildren, Maria Marken, Josh Palmer, Amanda Palmer, Sarah Clements, Austin Palmer, Eric Martin, Joclynn Palmer, Jayme Palmer, and Miranda Mead; seven great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, on daughter, Elizabeth Palmer Carpenter; one sister, Deanna Wagoner and a niece, Lisa Wagoner.

No service will be held at her request. 

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.

Michael Joseph Sera

Lifelong Deming resident Michael Joseph Sera, 65, died in Silver City on Thursday November 21, 2019 while working at the mine at Chino.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Shara Lee; daughter Kelly Carpenter; brother and sister in law Charles and Cathy Sera, and sister and brother in law Mary and Robert Ochoa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Hilaria Sera, sisters, Judy Ann Lovelace, Anita (Annie)Sera and grandson, Aidon Carpenter.

Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday November 29, 2019 at the Citi Life Church in Deming. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Michael’s life.

Leonard Pacheco

Leonard Pacheco, 55, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.

Leonard was born on July 5, 1964 to Leo Pacheco and Betty Schenk in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He loved the outdoors, listening to music but more importantly pending time with his friends and family. He was also a big Los Angeles Rams fan. He will be truly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Kyser; his companion, Rosie Grajeda; two sisters, Beth Carter and her husband Eddie and Della Pacheco and her husband Frank Hudecek; four step children, Tommy Joe, Claudia, Miley and Benjamin; eight nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Shanice, Mark, Kesha, Christina, Victoria, Jose and Manuel; close cousin, Richard and his wife Christina Giovanetti; sister in law, Mary Calvillo and numerous aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his father, Leo Pacheco and one uncle, Dexter Shook.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor, Xavier Silva officiating “Trusted care for the ones you love” ~ 575-546-0070.

Andres “Andy” Moreno Chavez

Andres “Andy” Moreno Chavez, 68, a resident of Fierro, NM entered eternal rest Friday, November 22, 2019 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. 

He was born November 30, 1950 in Santa Rita, NM to Hilario Chavez and Ignacia Moreno Chavez.  Andy proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. 

He is survived by his loving wife Idalia “Dolly” Chavez of the family home; two sons, Andy Alejandro Chavez of Hanover; Dustin Medina of Safford, AZ; two daughters, Audrey Chavez of Hurley; Diane Chavez of Bayard; eight grandchildren, Erin, Alyssia, Delilah, Angelena, Mary Jane, Jocelyn, Zriah, and Caden; special aunt, Juanita Escobar of Silver City. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard Chavez (2010).  Visitation will be Monday, December 2nd 11-12noon at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary being recited by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga to begin at 12 noon. 

Concluding service and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.  Pallbearers will be Andy Chavez Jr., Sonny Torres, Jesse Torres, Ace Alvarez, Richard Chavez Jr., and Chris Dominguez. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Manuel Escobar, Louie Escobar, Aurelio Chavez, Gilbert Torres Sr., Gilbert Torres Jr., and Albert Torres.

Marilyn Parra

Marilyn Parra, 88, longtime Deming resident passed away Monday November 18, 2019 at La Posada Nursing Home in Las Cruces.
 
Visitation will begin Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 3 o’clock led by Deacon Harold O’Dell.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, November 25, 2019, at 10 o’clock at Santa Ana Catholic Church.  Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.  Father Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor, will officiate. 
 
Marilyn was born July 26, 1931 in Garfield to Lillian Valencia and Adrian Gonzalez. She graduated from Hatch High School and pursued college classes thereafter. On April 10, 1955 she married Abran (Abie) Parra at San Isidro Church in Garfield.  They began their family living on the Mimbres and relocated to Deming where she was employed at the New Mexico Highway Department for 23 years. Regrettably, having to retire because of illness. Marilyn was a devoted communicant at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
 
This Thanksgiving season her family listed below is grateful for the wonderful life she gave to them,
which include her 4  sons, Abie (Carol) Parra and Tom (Melba) Parra of Mimbres, Sonny (Judith) Parra of Deming and Anthony (Jennifer) Parra of Las Cruces; 9 Grandchildren, Abie Joe Parra, Kendra Gonzales, Ashley Rouse, Carrie Lyon, Kendra Penn, Sandy Merino, Sharla Hernandez, Emilee Parra and Kailee Parra; 11 Great-grandchildren, Morgan & Maddison Parra, Ezekiel Rouse, Lauren & Adalynn Penn, Adrian, Brisaida, Jacee, Destiny, Michael & Adilene Hernandez.
 
Serving as pallbearers will be her 4 sons, Abie, Tom, Sonny and Anthony and 2 grandsons, Abie Joe Parra and Adrian Hernandez. Honorary bearers named are Ezekiel Rouse, Abran Chacon, Abran Pena, Steve Bencomo, Rod Pratz, Jeff Lara and Jerry Baca.
 
On Christmas Eve, if there is a small star in the sky, look at it with love and let it come into your heart … and remember me.

Sandra Palmer, 85, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at her residence.

Sandra was born on September 1, 1934 in Endicott, New York to Theodore VanOrder and Leda Campbell. She married the love of her life Wayne on August 4th, 1956. She lovingly cared for her ill husband for 28 years before his life came to a short end.

She worked for Kmart for 20 years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She retired and did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity. She is survived by
one son, Newell L. Palmer and his wife Mary Lou of Deming, NM; one daughter, Arden E. Perrault and her companion Ray Sanchez of Deming, NM; one sister, Scarlett Rake of Johnson City, NY; one granddaughter, Rachel Palmer; one grandson, Jared Palmer. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne G. Palmer; one brother, Scott VanOrder.

A graveside will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 2pm at Mountain View Cemetery with Pastor, Al Bunting officiating.

Nicolas Charles Bobo

Nicolas Charles Bobo age 36, entered eternal rest on November 12th surrounded by his family in Albuquerque, NM. He was born February 12th, 1983 in Temple Texas to Hank Bobo and Laura (Beck) Bobo. Nick is survived by his devoted wife Ashely Bobo and his four children Rachel 17, Devaughn Wooten 14, Nicolas (Scooter) 13, and Peyton 10. He also left behind his sister Candi Johnson (Bobo) and her husband Brandon; his brother Michael and wife Ashley; and brother Jeremy. He is also survived by maternal grandparents Jerry and Sue Beck; and grandmother Vera Carroll. Nick has many loving nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

From a young age and throughout his school years, Nick was an avid baseball player and aspired to become a professional baseball player. He was also a part of the Explorer Program and a life scout in pack and troop 130. He graduated from Silver High School in 2001 and went on to obtain his associates degree in Business Administration in 2017.

Throughout his life in Silver City he served his community as a Santa Clara police officer. He also worked for J&S plumbing with his family own and owned his own sports apparel shop on Hwy 180. He married the love of his life Ashley in February 2009 and they began building their family, a family that Nick spent the rest of his life loving, nurturing, and protecting. Nick enjoyed traveling with his family, spending time with his friends, bowling, golf, and watching the Cowboys play football.

Nick held many employment positions in Silver City and enjoyed each one in its own way. No matter what he did he loved making friends and having long conversations with everyone and anyone. One of his favorite positions held was serving his community as a Santa Clara police officer as this was one of his life dreams. He was employed with the family business, J&S plumbing, for many years throughout his life and was always willing to lend a helping hand when not employed there. His friends and community remember him as being friendly, kind, selfless and always willing to talk about sports, politics, or anything that required conversation.

After high school, Nick had a meaning full relationship and marriage with Jennifer Starkey, now Jennifer Dooling, and had two beautiful children, Rachel and Nicolas II. Later, Nick married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Ashley, on February 7th, 2009 and they began building a life together. A life full of adventure and love. This marriage produced two more beautiful children; step-son Devaughn and daughter Peyton. Nick’s family was everything to him, he spent his life loving, nurturing, and protecting them. Nick was selfless and always available to lend a helping hand to family, friends, as well as strangers.

Nick had many hobbies in life; he was an avid bowler and baseball player; he loved to watch, play and talk sports; he liked playing card games and spending time with his family; he enjoyed going to the movies and eating popcorn; and he had fun taking trips with his wife and kids.

We would like to invite his family and friends to join us in celebrating his life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday November 23rd at Terrazas Funeral Chapel with Pastor Joseph Gros officiating. His family and close friends will be honoring him by wearing Dallas Cowboys gear. Please help us to honor him by wearing his or your favorite sports team gear. Nick loved the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, Boston Celtics, and Pittsburg Penguins.

Carlos Andres Valenzuela

Carlos Andres Valenzuela, 42, a resident of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal rest on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Memorial Medical Hospital in Las Cruces. Carlos was born on November 1, 1977 in Deming, NM to Andres T. Valenzuela and Aurora Ruiz.

He enjoyed riding his bike, horses, traveling, music and taking things apart and putting them back together. He will be truly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Gabriela Valenzuela of Las Cruces, NM; three sons, Carlos Andres of Deming, NM; Diego of Deming, NM and Johnny of Las Cruces; one daughter, Analisse of Deming, NM; three step sons, Angel, Cruz and Sebastian; three step daughters, Maxine, Natalie and Pearl; two sisters, Veronica Valenzuela of Deming, NM and Sonia Valenzuela and her husband Gilbert Marquez of Deming, NM and one grandson, Alexis Andres Valenzuela. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.

Guillermo M. Maldonado, 63, a resident of Arenas Valley, NM entered eternal rest Monday, November 4, 2019 at Mt. View Reginal Medical Center.

He was born August 18, 1956 in Silver City, NM to Guillermo Maldonado Sr. and Juanita Medrano Maldonado. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy M. Maldonado of the family home; one son, Guillermo M. Maldonado III of Arenas Valley; one daughter, Amelia Camille Maldonado of Arenas Valley; two grandchildren, Enoch Ishmeal Rivera and Lucas Avery Rivera; his mother, Juanita M. Maldonado; three sisters, Velia Luna and husband Stanley of Albuquerque; Gloria Abeyta and husband Pete of Silver City; Bertha Saenz and husband Jesus of Deming. He was preceded in death by his father, one son, Jonathan Maldonado.

A Graveside service being officiated by Pastor Norman Borrego will be celebrated on Friday, November 15th at 10am at the Maldonado Family cemetery in Gila, NM.

She was born May 22, 1948 in Casper, Wyoming. She is survived by her son, Christopher P. Horyn of Costa Rica; her daughter, Kelly J. Thornburg of IA; two close friends, David and Diane Princehouse. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 14th at 1pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Father Andrews from Our Lady of Guadalupe Monestary officiating.
