Jeannette (Jenny) Cowles

Jeannette (Jenny) Cowles, 70, longtime Deming resident passed away peacefully of cancer Friday June 22, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
 
A memorial service is planned for Saturday July 14, 2018, the time and place to be announced.  Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.  
 
Jenny, as she was affectionately known was born September 15, 1947 to Mary and Richard Wohlgemuth in Euclid, Ohio.  She moved to Deming in 1977 coming from Bedford Heights, Ohio and was employed with Kmart Stores as a Store Manager for 33 years before retiring.  She began the “Shop with the Cop” program in Deming over 25 years ago  and enjoyed the outdoors and camping.  
 
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Len Cowles of the home; 2 sons, Lenny Cowles and his wife Nanci of Phoenix, AZ, Curt Cowles and his wife Shannon of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 brothers, Richard of Ohio, David of California; 3 sisters, Carol of Ohio, Diane of New Jersey and Marlene of Deming; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Hailee, Kennedi, Orlando, Aaron, Arianna, Breanna, Eric, Josh and Adam. 
 
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Wohlgemuth; brother, Ken; son, Richard Cowles and daughter-in-law, Tina Salaiz-Cowles.

Ernestine Bernice Wilson

Ernestine Bernice Wilson, 81, a lifetime Deming resident passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Hospital of Providence in El Paso, TX.

Visitation will be Friday June 22, 2018 beginning at 10 o'clock in the morning at Baca's Funeral Chapel and a funeral service will began at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Bishop Richard L. Johnson will officiating. Cremation will follow at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory with inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Ernestine was born June 28, 1936 to Mary McCullun and George Haynes in Deming. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God and Christ.

She is survived by 3 sons, Silas (Lupe) Wilson III of Deming, Ernest L. (Cruz) Wilson and Joel (Cathy) Wilson both of El Paso, TX; 2 daughters, Mary B. Haynes of North Carolina and Brenda E. (Hakim) Clausall of Denver, CO; brother, Jim Haynes of Deming; sister, Georgia Killingsworth of Temple, TX; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Wilson Jr in 1982.; parents, George and Mary Haynes and a daughter, Charlene Haynes.

Manuel Oscar Chavez Jr.

MANUEL OSCAR CHAVEZ JR., 37, passed away Monday June 18, 2018 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be Monday June 25, 2018 from 4 to 6 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a prayer service will begin at 6 o’clock.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday morning at 10 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating.  Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. 

Manuel was born March 14, 1981 in Deming to Manuel Oscar Chavez and Anna Sainz.  He graduated from Deming High School and furthered his education at Western New Mexico University and also New Mexico State University.  Manuel studied business management and several trade occupations.  He was an electrician and was also skilled in carpentry, and heating and cooling. He enjoyed being in the outdoors.

Manuel is survived by his father, Manuel Oscar Chavez Sr. of Deming; his mother Anna Chavez of Deming; his daughters, Jazmine A. Chavez and Brittany V. Chavez of Deming; his sister Vanessa Chavez-Corken (Steve) of Deming; grandparents, Hortencia Noll and Amparo Rivera of Deming; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Manuel O. Chavez Sr., Ricardo Rivera, Gilberto Rivera, Rudolfo Rivera, Apolonio Altamirano, and Ramon Romero.  Honorary bearer is Pepe Montoya.

Anita D. Ordonez

Anita D. Ordonez, 62, Deming resident passed away Friday June 15, 2018 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 20, 2018 beginning at 4 o’clock at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with a recitation of the rosary to follow at 6 o’clock.  Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday morning, June 21, 2018 at 10 o’clock at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Prakasham Babu officiating. Cremation will follow at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
 
Anita was born May 12, 1956 to Clorinda Sandoval Dodds and Refugio Ochoa Ordonez in Silver City.  She was employed with the HELP program working for the Rainbow, Corner Escuelita and TLC for over 25 years.  She was so dedicated to her children, she spent countless hours with them.  Anita will be remembered for her cooking, and the love she shared with her family.
 
She is survived by her husband, Jose D. Carrazco of the home; son, Samuel Javier Ordonez and wife Iliana of Las Cruces; 2 daughters, Samantha Anne Ordonez and Savannah Jo Ordonez both of Las Cruces; 2 sisters, Terry O. Ramirez of Clute, TX and Josie Luera and husband Joe of Deming; 10 grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.  
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Clorinda Ordonez; brother, Refugio D. Ordonez and sister, Sofie D. Aguilar.
 
Pallbearers will be Samuel Javier Ordonez, Bryan Jakub Ordonez, Jose Miguel Ordonez, Robert Ramirez, Gilly Limon and Manuel Carrazco.

Mary Louise Kaliski, 82, Deming resident passed away Wednesday June 6, 2018 at Lordsburg, NM.
 
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday June, 15, 2018 at 10 o'clock at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Prakasham Babu officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
 
Mary was born November 14, 1935 to Leota E. Clymer and Harry H. Wells in Fostoria, Ohio. She married Bernard Kaliski on February 4, 1956 at St. Wendalin Church in Fostoria, OH. After her husband's retirement they moved  from Matteson, IL to Deming in 2003. She  was a communicant at Holy Family Catholic Church .
 
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Bernard Kaliski;  2 sons,  Michael (Mary) Kaliski of Blue Island, IL and Robert (Karen) Kaliski of Wells, NV; daughter, Dawn Kaliski of Blue Island, IL; 4 granddaughters  Sarah Kaliski-Roll, Nicole Martinez, Amanda Alvarez and Jessica Kaliski; 4 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Emmeline, Francis and Charlotte; brother, Harry Wells of Phoenix, AZ and sister, Betty Moore of Holgate, OH.
 
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Leota Wells.

Larry Eugene Dillon

Larry Eugene Dillon, 75, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at his residence. Larry was born on June 2, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas to Don Todd Dillon and Mable Ida Baublit.

Larry served twenty years in the U.S. Army and the majority of it in Vietnam, Afghanistan and other parts of the world. After his army career he worked in the corporate business structure as a HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning) specialist and adviser. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW and member of the Elks Club. He loved to travel; he was fun to be with and called ‘Sarge’ by many of his friends.

He was a loving father and his family was the love of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Dillon; three daughters, Nichole Brazzell and her husband Allen of Martinez, GA; Naomi DiMartino of Gardnerville, NV and Brenda Nuñez of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters, Donna Rzasa of Deming, NM and Fay E. Howard and her husband Virgil of Deming, NM; loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents; one daughter, Belinda Dillon; three sisters, Velma Vicky Crumpton, Kay Hamilton and Wanda Burton. Visitation will be on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 9-10am with the funeral service beginning at 10am with Pastor, Xavier Silva officiating at Terrazas Funeral Chapels.

Concluding services with an interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery all in Deming, NM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity. His family would like to give a special thank you to his caretakers Jillian Adrienne Rosa and Penny Franco Belloc.

Helen M. Covey

HELEN M. COVEY, 99, a longtime resident of Deming passed away Monday June 4, 2018 at the Willow Manor in Deming.

A memorial service will be Friday June 8, 2018 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at The First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ernie Vineyard officiating.  As was her request, cremation has taken place at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory and inurnment will take place at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Helen was born September 18, 1918 in Burt, New York to Emmett and Beatrice (Lockwood) Salisbury.  She has been a resident of Deming sine 1972 having moved here from Denver.  She was a secretary in the hotel industry until her retirement and locally was a member of The First United Methodist Church.  She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and the Philanthropic Educational Organization. 

She is survived by her daughter, Susan M. Moon of Grand Junction, CO; 2 daughters in law, Phyllis Covey of Pueblo, CO and Judith Slack of Arvada, CO; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren, 18 great great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jamie L. Covey, great grandchild Molly Leonard, 3 step children, Joyce Leonard and her husband Ralph, (Helen’s son in law), Richard Covey and Garry Covey, son in law, Robert Moon, and 2 sisters, Joyce Richards and Dorothy Salisbury.

Don Q. Ruottinen

Don Q. Ruottinen, 78, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at his residence. Don was born on April 4, 1940 in Calumet, MI to Walter Ruottinen and Gladys Koskela. Don was a United States Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer E-9, Retired Veteran Serving our country honorably as a Naval Engineering and Machinery Technician. Don also retired from Phelps Dodge in Morenci, Arizona.

Don was a Plank Owner Navy Memorial in Washington D.C. and Passed Commander at the American Legion in Deming, New Mexico and Lifetime Member of the American Legion and of the Disabled American Veterans, US Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association and Coast Guard Enlisted Association. Don`s interests included traveling with his wife Fran throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He loved Art, History, Reading, Football and Nash Car races and talking to his family, Grandchildren and all people in general.  Don touched so many hearts in his lifetime with the love, generosity, kindness he displayed and was loved by all that ever had the opportunity to know him. The Weather May Vary From Day to Day, But a Good Ship Mate You Will Always Stay. He is survived by his wife, Frances “Fran” Ruottinen; two sons, Dana Ruottinen of New Mexico and Quentin Ruottinen and his wife Terry of Virginia; one step son, Steven Solis and his fiancé Melissa Padilla of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters, Corrina Ruottinen and her fiancé Allen of Ruidoso, NM and Thimberly Martinez of Radar Spring, NM; two step daughters, Charmaine Sias of Deming, NM and Elena Solis Gutierrez and her husband Raymundo of Los Lunas, NM; two sisters, Evelyn Jackman of Minnesota and Gloria Kivela of Michigan; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; two sisters, Grace Ruottinen and Fay Ruottinen and one daughter-in-law, Arlene Ruottinen.

A celebration of life service will be on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Chaplain, Dan Kline officiating. Concluding services with an inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Military honors. The Ruotinnen family would like to give a special thank you to Ambercare Hospice and nurses, The American Legion, Commander, Ed Miller, Chaplain, Dan Kline and all his family and friends that were there for Don. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels
