Adrian Q. Ballinas

​Adrian Q. Ballinas, 45, lifelong Deming resident passed away Wednesday April 26, 2017 at his parent’s home surrounded by family.
 
Visitation will be Friday April 28, 2017 at 6 o’clock in the evening at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a rosary service will follow at 7 o’clock to be led by Eddie Diaz. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday April 29, 2017 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at St Ann’s Catholic Church with the rite of committal and interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Manuel Ibarra, Pastor, will officiate.
 
Adrian was born July 17, 1971 in Deming to Dolores “Lola” Quintero and Ricardo O. Ballinas.  He worked in the construction industry and was very talented in metal fabrication.  Adrian loved to dance and listen to music and especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.  He loved his grandchildren very much and was an avid Denver Bronco fan. He was very proud of his two sons and their accomplishments.
 
He is survived by wife, Josephina ‘Josie’ Ballinas of the home; parents, Ricardo and Dolores ‘Lola’ Ballinas of Deming; 2 sons, Adrian Jr. and wife Mayra of Austin, TX, Alexis and wife Claudia of Albuquerque, NM; 3 step-daughters, Sabrina Garnand, Marina Garcia and husband Ray, Selene Campos all of Deming; 3 brothers, Ricardo Ballinas and wife Christina of CA, Jose Ballinas and wife Alma, Allan Ballinas and wife Liz both of Deming; 2 sisters, Linda Ballinas of Deming, Lilly Newcombe and husband Jeff of Maine; 3 grandchildren, Damian, Aubri and Audiana Ballinas; 1 step-granddaughter, Rylee Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
 
He was preceded in death by grandmother, Manuelita Quintero and aunt, Ludi Quintero.
 
Serving as pallbearers are Ricardo Ballinas, Jose Ballinas, Allan Ballinas, Adrian Ballinas Jr., Alexis Ballinas, Paul Garcia Jr., Tony Mariscal, Carlos Armendariz and Andy Gonzalez.  Honorary pallbearers will be Damian Ballinas, Aubri Ballinas, Audiana Ballinas, Rylee Garcia, Bryan Portillo, Estevan Camacho, Ricky Ballinas and Mark Ballinas.

Floyd George Ryan

Floyd George Ryan, 98, a longtime Deming resident passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
 
A memorial service will take place at the Deming Senior Center on Saturday, May 27, 2017.  Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory. 
 
Floyd was born January 5, 1919 to Laura Duree and Glen C. Ryan in Bigheart, Oklahoma.  He served his country honorably in the United States Army from which he retired in 1958.  Floyd came to Deming in 1959 from the Denver, Colorado area.  Locally he enjoyed his daily meals at the Deming Senior Center and always liked gathering with friends.  He loved fishing, camping and the outdoors.  
 
He is survived by son, George Ryan and wife Jan of Brighton, CO; daughter, Sandra Dawson and husband Bob of Las Vegas, NV; brother Dick Ryan and sister Carol Ryan both of Steamboat Springs, CO; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by parents, Glen and Laura Ryan.

Fletcher C "Shanty" Bowman

​Fletcher C. “Shanty” Bowman, 83, passed away in Las Cruces at Memorial Medical Center on Thursday April 20, 2017.
 
A memorial service will be at the First United Methodist Church at Three-Thirty in the afternoon on Wednesday April 26, 2017. Pastor Ernie Vineyard will officiate. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
 
Fletcher was born to Mabel Guyon and Fletcher Bowman Sr. in Albuquerque, NM. Fletcher “Shanty” enjoyed being active in politics, selling life insurance and especially Deming Wildcat Athletics Program. He was loved for his compassion and giving nature to everyone. He will be greatly missed.
 
Fletcher is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 58 years. They had three daughters Janet, Charlene husband Steven, and Kathy; three grandchildren Adam, Abby, and Nathan; siblings Helen, Clenton, and Frances.
 
He was preceded in death by parents Fletcher and Mabel Bowman; brother Herb; bother in law Johnnie and sister in law Joy.

Linda Lou Mitchell

​Linda Lou Mitchell, 65, a resident of Deming, NM went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19th 2017 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces, NM.

Linda was born on May 1st 1951 in Deming, New Mexico to Cecil McClung and Edna Hawkinson. She is survived by her mother, Edna McClung of New Burn, N.C; her son, Raymond  A. Mitchell and his wife Monica Rosson-Mitchell of Salem OR; two daughters, Merrie Kae Mitchell of Mesa, AZ and Melodie Reid and her husband Kevin of Portland, OR; two brothers, Buck McClung and his wife Rhonda of Cedar Rapids, IA and Eddie McClung and his wife Tina of Springfield, IL; three sisters, Ruby Scheer and her husband Jim of New Burn, N.C; Irene McClung of West Memphis, AR and Sally McClung of West Memphis, AR; two grandchildren, Marissa and Eric Donaldson.

Linda was preceded in death by her father and her loving husband of 44years, Raymond Dwight Mitchell. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 27th from 10am-11am and service to follow at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop, Jason Nichols officiating.

​Concluding services will be burial at Mountain View Cemetery.

Raymond "Dwight" Mitchell

​Raymond “Dwight” Mitchell, 66, a resident of Deming, NM went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017 at UMC El Paso. Raymond was born on February 20th 1951 in Silver City, New Mexico to Raymond Claude Mitchell and Betty Howell.

At the time he was survived by his loving wife of 44 years,  Linda Lou Mitchell; one son, Raymond A. Mitchell and his wife Monica Rosson-Mitchell of Salem OR; two daughters, Merrie Kae Mitchell of Mesa, AZ and Melodie Reid and her husband Kevin of Portland, OR; three sisters, Jamie Mitchell of Santa Clara, NM; Geri Vaughn and her husband Mike of Mimbres, NM and Shelly Kimmick and her husband Brad of Silver City, NM; two grandchildren, Marissa and Eric Donaldson.

​Dwight is preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother, Ken Kingston.  Visitation will be on Thursday, April 27th from 10am-11am and service to follow at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop, Jason Nichols officiating.

Concluding services will be burial at Mountain View Cemetery.

Frances Nellie Gutierrez

​Frances Nellie Gutierrez, a lifelong resident of Columbus and Deming, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017, surrounded by her family, at the Four Hills Retirement Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
 
A rosary prayer vigil will take place at Baca's Funeral Home at 6 p.m. on Monday April 24 in Deming. A Resurrection Mass will then be celebrated by Fr. Ron Machado at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday April 25.   A concluding service will follow at Mountain View.

Nellie was born on November 5, 1926 in Golden, New Mexico to Frank and Dolores Tinney.   She was one of six rambunctious children who later moved to Columbus in late 1930s.  Nellie then married Refugio Gutierrez of Columbus on August 09, 1945.  Besides staying very busy as a mother and homemaker, she worked at the Columbus Elementary School for 13 years as a cafeteria server and then later promoted to manager.  Nellie was very active at the Holy Family Catholic Mission including teaching religious education and being involved in civic work within the local village community.  She later moved to Deming in 1995 to care for her infirm husband and remained in Deming until 2011, when she relocated to Las Cruces and Albuquerque. 

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Refugio in 2001, and is survived by her two children; Viola and her husband, Mike Jurica of Llano, New Mexico and Nicholas and his wife, Anita of Elkridge, Maryland.   She has six beloved grandchildren; Michael, Susan, Alberto, Alejandro, Andrea and Alyssa and four great grandchildren; Michael IV, Nick, Sarah and Mary. 

​In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made in Nellie's memory to your charity of choice.

Frank F. Kretek, Jr.

Frank F. Kretek, Jr., 93, was called to Heaven on April 4th, 2017 surrounded by family, friends and caregivers at his home in El Paso. 
 
Visitation will begin Monday afternoon April 10, 2017 at 5 o’clock at Holy Family Church, where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o’clock led by Suzanne Lundy. Frank ‘s life will be celebrated at a Mass of the Christian Burial at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at Holy Family Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Father Ronald Machado, Pastor officiating.  

A memorial mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Church in El Paso at a later date. 
 
Frank was born March 23, 1924 in Deming to Bessie M. Klecka and Frank F. Kretek Sr. and he graduated from Deming HS in 1941.  He voluntarily joined the Army Air Services and served from Dec. 11, 1942 until Feb. 19, 1946 and then attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, graduating in 1950.  He then spent 35 years working at El Paso Natural Gas Company and a number of years working at the Sunland Park race track. Time with family and friends, golf, sports, his roses and ranch, attending the Fair and the Deming Duck Races, helping to make klobase for the Holy Family Klobase Dinner were what gave Frank great joy as well as his involvement with the Boy Scouts.  Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Deming and a Eucharistic Minister at his Parish.
 
The family wishes to thank Gloria Chacon, Gabriela Crews and Sandra Boyd for their loving care, those special friends who visited and shared life with him, and the Visiting Angels, Outreach and Hospice of El Paso for their compassionate care during the last months of his life.
 
Pallbearers are Jerry Prewitt, John March, Wade Worrell, Chris Robinson, John Lynch, and Steve Malachowski. Honorary pallbearers are Fletcher Shanty Bowman, Bob Kadel, Mike Peterson, Gary Bales, Mark Terry, Steve Vines, Jim Meyers, and John Devery.
 
He is survived by his son Charles ‘Chuck’ Kretek, and his sons Nicolas King-Kretek and Dominic King; and his daughter Carol (Kretek) Lynch, her husband John Lynch and their daughters Avery and Hayden; his sisters, Gertrude and Geraldine Kretek; Leonard’s stepson, Chris Robinson and wife Mary; and Frank’s sister-in-law, Sister Carol Nicklas, SNJM, Margo’s sister.
 
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret ‘Margo’ (Nicklas) Kretek; his parents, Frank and Bessie Kretek; and brothers Edward and Leonard Kretek. 
 
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Boy Scouts of America, Yucca Council, 7601 Lockheed Dr., El Paso, Texas 79925 or St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, 3000 Barton Creek Blvd, Austin,
TX 78735.

GEORGE A. COBOS, 51, resident of Deming passed away Saturday April 1, 2017 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday morning, April 7, 2017 at 9 o’clock at St. Ann Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 10 o’clock led by Cristina Milo.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 o’clock with Fr. Manuel Ibarra, Pastor officiating.  Concluding services with honors will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
George was born February 22, 1966 in Deming to Leopoldo and Adelina (Torres) Cobos.  He graduated from Deming High School in 1985 and shortly thereafter he entered the United States Marine Corps.  Upon his release from the Marines George went to work with the Arizona Corrections Department in Yuma, Arizona in 1990.  He retired from there in 2010 and in October of that year he returned to Deming.  Locally he was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, was an officer of the Loyal Order of Moose, and had also worked at Starmax for some time.  Family and friends will always remember how much he loved karaoke and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Cobos of Deming; his mother, Adelina Cobos of Deming; daughter, Breann Cobos of Yuma, AZ; sister, Barbara Torres Dominguez (Pete Jr.) of Deming; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Leopoldo Cobos.
Pallbearers will be Gilbert Torres, Raymond Soliz, Benny Torres Jr., Hector Perez, Angel Borrego, and Eric Caballero.
