ITZ'AMOR ESCOBAR, 1 year old, passed away Wednesday December 21, 2016 at El Paso Children's Hospital in El Paso, TX.
 
Funeral service will be Thursday morning December 29, 2016 at 11 o'clock  at Baca's Funeral Chapel with Father Ron Machado of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating.  Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
 
She was born December 19, 2015 in Silver City to Christina Escobar and Jonathan Carrillo. 
 
Survivors include her mother Christina Escobar; her brother, Flavio Aguilar; grandmothers, Anna Mendoza, Malena Torres, Socorro Torres; and great grandmother Socorro Arroyos. 
 
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

Nolberto Lopez

NOLBERTO LOPEZ, 69, Deming resident passed away Sunday December 25, 2016 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.

The Memorial Service will be held Saturday December 31, 2016 at 11:30 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness with Paul Hernandez officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca's Mimbres Crematory.

Nolberto was born March 17, 1947 in Deming to Graciela Escudero and Jose Lopez. He was a farmer and was an Elder of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. Nolberto enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and loved all animals.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Lopez of the home; 4 sons, Pablo Lopez of Palomas, Chihuahua, Mexico, Nolberto Lopez Jr., Santiago Lopez both of Arizona, Lorenzo Lopez of Albuquerque; 3 daughters; Juanita Becerra, Annie Renteria both of Deming, Marisa Medrano of Alamogordo; 2 brothers, Ricardo Lopez of Columbus, Jaime Lopez of Deming; 3 sisters, Virginia Lopez of Casas Grandes, Mexico, Lilia Gamboa, Rosa Pacheco both of Deming; numerous grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Graciela Lopez and a son Manuel Lopez.

​Guadalupe R. Barraza

Guadalupe R. Barraza of Deming passed away Monday December 26, 2016 after a lengthy illness.  She was 77.
 
Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 o’clock in the morning at United Pentecostal Church, 1200 W. Ash St. Deming, New Mexico.  Cremation was taken place at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
 
Known as Lupe to her friends and family, Lupe was born July 16, 1939, in Valentine, Texas to Pedro and Petronila Renteria.  She graduated from Valentine High School in 1958.  After graduating she patiently waited for the return of her high school sweetheart Benedo S. Barraza who was serving his country in the Korean War.
 
Lupe R. Barraza and Benedo S. Barraza were married December 30, 1959.  They had 3 children, Michael Otis Barraza (Kathy) of Deming, Joe Don Barraza (Sandra) of Yeso, NM and Maura Ann Barraza of Deming.  Lupe had 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 
 
She had a great love for her family but had a greater love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  A love she would share with friends, family and anybody else she could visit with.  She was very devoted to her church and church family until sickness kept her home.  Where she continued to read the bible, and pray daily. 
 
Lupe loved children so much she opened a day care center which she lovingly ran for years and still owns the building which is being used for children education and care.
 
Lupe is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Petronila Renteria, in law parents, Miguel and Eloisa Barraza and loving husband, Benedo S. Barraza.  She is survived by her children, grandchildren and a world full of friends.

Vera Jo McSherry

Vera Jo McSherry, 94, a resident of Faywood, NM entered eternal rest on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. Vera was born on April 23, 1922 to Grover C. McSherry and Mary E. O’Connor in Dwyer, NM. 

Vera is survived by one sister, Francis Rose Graham of Lamar, CO; seven nieces, Patricia McSherry of Deming, NM; Marci Klauberg of Alexandria, VA; Regina Basset of Grove, GA; Rochelle Johnson of Ovalo, TX; Ruth Fox of Sherman, NM; Heather Graham of Cortez, CO; and McSherry Weber of Davis, OK; seven nephews, Paul McSherry of Albuquerque, NM; Michael McSherry of Plano, TX; David McSherry of Deming, NM; Keven McSherry of Tucson, AZ; Rod McSherry of Deming, NM; Damian McSherry of Lucydale,MS and Grover McSherry of Aurora, CO; two sister in laws, Vesta Spain McSherry and Clara Jo “Jody” McSherry; and numerous grand- nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Regis McSherry and GX “Xavier” McSherry; two sisters, Magdalena McSherry and Kathleen McSherry. 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 9-9:30am with the holy rosary beginning at 9:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. Funeral mass will then take place at 10:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father, Ron Machado officiating.

Concluding services with an interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Paul, Mike, David, Rod, Keven McSherry and Hunter Fox. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.

Lena (Callaway) Woods

Lena (Callaway) Woods, "Tootsie" or "Granny",  was born May 19, 1921 to Mr. & Mrs. Henry and Lillie Callaway in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She was the 7th child born to this union of 13.
 
She departed this life Thursday December 15, 2016 at 3 pm in Deming at the age of 95.
 
The funeral service will be Thursday December 22, 2016 at 11 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Eric Wells and Rev. Reggie Price officiating of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church officiating.  Cremation will follow at Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
 
Lena lead a long and fulfilling life, she was a woman that loved to cook. She operated 2 businesses; one in the 50' called The Big House and the other in the late 70's early 80's, Woods Pit Barbeque. She was a member and mother of Antioch Mission Baptist Church for many years. Lena was active in many social activities in the community and church. She loved all family members "unconditionally".  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who love her dearly.
 
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marcella of Deming, Gene of Northside, California, Larry of Deming, Albert of Deming, Christine of Phoenix, Arizona, Sheila of Las Cruces; 34 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and  4 sisters, Dorothy Jass of Sacramento, California, Ella Mae Stewart of Denver, Colorado, Emma Jean Calloway of Stockton, California and Letha Smith of Deming.

Alfonso Quevedo Soto

​ALFONSO QUEVEDO SOTO, 81, Deming resident passed away Wednesday December 14, 2016 at his home.
 
Visitation will begin Sunday afternoon December 18, 2016 at 4 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapel with the prayer vigil there at 5 o'clock. Mass of the Christian burial will be Monday morning December 19, 2016 at 10 o'clock at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Fr. Manuel Ibarra officiating. Cremation will follow at Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
 
Alfonso was born September 19, 1935 at Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico to Eva Soto and Marcos Quevedo. He was a Deming resident since 2004 coming from Sunland Park, NM and had worked in building construction and had numerous other occupations. His pastime was listening to music.
 
Survivors include the Grove family; his son, David Quevedo of Deming, 2 daughters, Marithza Martinez and husband J.R. of Deming, Alma Mowry and husband Jeff of Kent, Washington; sister, Dolores Grove of El Paso, Texas and grandchildren, Myriam, Mireya and Mirabelle Martinez, Mischa Castillo and Porter Mowry.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Laura Quevedo and his sister, Armanda Grove.

Steve De La Paz

Steve De La Paz, 20, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Friday, December 9, 2016 at his residence.

Steve was born on July 2, 1996 to Martin De La Paz and Argelia Guerrero in Los Angeles, CA. Steve was well known to be full of life. Everyone enjoyed being around him. During his high school years he loved being in sports: basketball, football, track and boxing during his younger years. He also enjoyed animals. During his life he raised many different pets. He will be truly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving mother, Argelia Guerrero and her companion Jesse Cordova; his step father, Cipriano Flores one brother, Daniel De La Paz of Tucson, AZ; his twin sister, Denise De La Paz of Las Cruces, NM; three aunts, Celia, Nina and Virginia; four uncles, Benjamin, Eduardo, Jorge and Jesus; numerous cousins; and his best friend, Dante Urrea. 

Visitation will be on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 1-2pm with the holy rosary beginning at 2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Marisol Perez officiating. Funeral mass will then take place at St. Ann Catholic Church at 3pm with Father, Manuel Ibarra officiating. 

Cremation will then take place at Terrazas Crematory. Serving as pallbearers are Dante Urrea, Sonny Sierra, Tony Palomino, Rafael Torres, Jacob Polanco and Isaac Lendhart.

Honorary pallbearers are Colton Cain, Aaron Garcia, Cipriano Flores, Augustin Palomino and Edwin Villescas.

Martin Levy

Martin Levy, age 83, Deming resident since 1997 passed away the evening of December 10, 2016 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.

Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Pursuant to Marty’s request there will be no services. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

Marty was born in New York City to Joseph and Beatrice Levy, he served in the Marine Corp from 1950 to 1954 and worked most his life in the Hotel industry in both Food and Beverage and as a Photographer. After retiring to Deming, he volunteered many hours to Cancer Support of Deming and Luna County and to the Meals on Wheels program.

A true sports fan, he loved the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Before age caught up with him he was an avid golfer.
Marty is survived by his sisters-in-law, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Cheri Levy.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Cancer Support of Deming-Luna County, PO Box 1746, Deming, NM 88031 or Deming Animal Guardians, PO Box 1275, Deming, NM 88030.

​LEWIS ADAMS WARE,  95, Deming resident passed away Tuesday December 13, 2016 at his home.
 
Per his request no services will be held, he will be laid to rest at Fort Bayard National Cemetery  at Fort Bayard.
 
Lewis was born June 26, 1921 in Huntington, Indiana.
 
Survivors include a son, Gary Ware of Deming; 2 daughters, Anita Hoezee of  Deming, Judith Brock of London, Kentucky; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Cleta Ware.

Celia Chacon, 64, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Friday, December 9, 2016 at her residence.

Celia was born on October 21, 1952 to Manuel Perez and Montserrat Ornelas in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. Celia enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and was very devoted to her church.

She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Lazalde and her husband Uberto of Deming, NM; Ana Chacon of Deming, NM; Lorena Ramos and her husband Edmundo of El Paso, TX and Sonia Rodriguez and her husband Joe of El Paso, TX; two brothers and five sisters; eight grandchildren, Braulio, Roxanne, Alex, Yesenia, Andrea, Fabian, Melanie and Zach; two great grandchildren, Alberto and Abriela and her extensive church family. 

A funeral service will be on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10m at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Minister, Paul Ledezma officiating. Concluding services with an interment will be at Mountain View cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Fabian Nevarez, Braulio Lazalde, Edmundo Ramos, Joe Rodriguez, Edwin Huereque and Alex Ordonez. Honorary pallbearer will be Zach Ramos.
