Robert (Bob) Asher Stroud rode off to The Big Rodeo in the Sky on April 11, 2018 at the age of 85.  By his side was his beautiful pride and joy, his soul mate, and loving wife, Charlene Elizabeth Stroud.

This cowboy was born to parents James Asher and Helen Hassman Stroud on December 25, 1932 on a ranch in Dalhart, Texas and then moved as an infant to a ranch in Hatch, NM where he grew up as the middle child of three brothers (Colman Stroud and Bill Stroud).   He was a real cowboy who loved his ranch life, horses, working cattle, rodeos and everything a cowboy does.  He was also a Junior World Champion Calf Roper in El Paso, Texas.   His passion was his life on the ranch until he saw a beautiful lady “hangin on the fence” (in his own words) while he was working cattle.   Charlene Elizabeth became the center of his world and he loved her more than life itself.  They married September 22, 1951.    He worked 41 years for El Paso Natural Gas Company and retired in 1993.   The 25 years following his retirement were some of his happiest because he was able to spend all of his time with his bride.   They enjoyed everything together including Ruidoso Horse Racing, Dallas Cowboy games, listening to country music, country & western dancing, trips to visit the kids and grandkids, boating activities and having a house full of family and friends.  He was also a member of the Masonic Deming Lodge No 12.

Left behind to carry on Bob’s legacy:  his beloved wife of 66 years, Charlene; his children, Sharmane Riemer (Neil), Robert “Butch” Stroud (Jeanie), and Sherry Taylor (Chip); his grandchildren, La Dawn Whitmire, Shawna Lavender, Brandy Trussell, Tonya Sornson, Tracy Lawton, Rob Stroud, and Dustin Campbell; and his 9 beautiful great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels of Deming, 811 South Gold Ave.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Hospice of Washington County in Hagerstown, Maryland.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local Hospice Care Center.

Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
