Oza (Occie) Lee Marshall

Oza (Occie) Lee Marshall, 85, longtime Deming resident passed away Sunday April 14, 2019 at Providence Hospital in El Paso, Texas.

Visitation will be Friday April 19, 2019 from 5 PM to 6 PM at Baca’s Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will take place Saturday April 20, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with Pastor LaKeith Jones officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Occie was born November 18, 1933 to Laura Etta Jackson and Jack Ivy Gilbreath in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura E. Jackson and Jack I. Gilbreath; three former husbands. She leaves behind her husband/companion of over 57 years Johnny E. Marshall. She is survived by her children, Albert (Cathy)Williams, Phillip L. (Carolyn)Wade, Laura A. Marshall-Davenport (Charles), Johnny (Patricia)Marshall, Oza L. (Olivia) Marshall, Ruth Marshall, Helen Marshall-Baca, David Marshall; 16 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

She lived a full, exciting and happy life as a wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed tremendously.

June 12, 1973 – April 15, 2019
 
Anthony Joseph Dominic (Chain) Ransone, 45, a longtime resident of Deming passed away April 15, 2019 at home.
 
Visitation and rosary will be at Baca’s Funeral Chapels Monday April 22, 2019 at 6 o’clock in the evening. Funeral services will be at Baca’s Funeral Chapel Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning with Chaplin Roy Greene “Royboy” from the Survivors Motorcycle Club officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
 
Anthony was born June 12, 1973 in Okinawa, Japan at a U.S. Army Hospital to David Lee and Carol Marie Ransone.  He was preceded in death by his step-mother Brenda Anne Ransone.  Anthony passed in his sleep leaving behind his father David Lee Ransone of Deming; sister, Tina Marie Ransone Smith of Rye, TX; Gwendolyn Herndon and brother Troy Herndon of Buckingham, VA.
 
Pallbearers will be Troy Herndon, Wendell Hardegree, Andrew Smith, Cruz Padilla, Jeff Goetz and Daniel Costello.
 
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

Manuel Martinez Giron

Manuel Martinez Giron, 57, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at his residence. Manuel was born on June 16, 1961 in Deming, NM to Miguel T. Giron and Manuela Martinez Giron.

Manuel retired from the U.S. Navy and then proceeded to graduate from New Mexico State University with a Bachelors Degree. He taught history at Cesar Chavez School. Manuel was a lover of life and what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and his pets.  He was a great cook, enjoyed fishing and camping, loved to travel, was a big Dallas Cowboys fan then converted to a Denver Broncos fan because of his grandson.  He was also known for having the best tailgate parties at NMSU that everybody enjoyed because Manuel made it so much fun. He was a big Elvis fan and great Elvis impersonator. He was a loving son, husband, father and brother that will be sorely missed.  He is survived by his mother; his loving wife, Esther Giron; three Sons, Jose Giron and his companion Jessi of Deming, NM; Anthony Giron and his wife Kim of Deming, NM and Mikey Giron of Deming, NM; two daughters, Veronica Giron of Deming, NM and Jasmine Giron and her companion Hugo of Deming, NM; one brother, Miguel Giron and his wife Hilda of Deming, NM; three sisters, Betty Beatriz Gavaldon of Phoenix, AZ; Olivia Hurtado of Florida and Dr. Jenny Giron of El Paso, TX; three grandchildren, Isabela Giron, Carlos Giron and Brianna Reyes. He is preceded in death by his father and his maternal grandmother, Nestora Martinez.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 5-6pm with the holy rosary beginning at 6pm at Holy Family Catholic Church with Suzanne Lundy officiating. The funeral mass will be on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 12noon at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Concluding services with an interment will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Serving as pallbearers are Jose Giron, Anthony Giron, Mikey Giron, Miguel Giron, Mark Frangione and Julian Flores.

Serving as a honorary pallbearer will be Carlos Giron.

Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.

Lila Fay Welch

Lila Fay Welch, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Deming, surrounded by her family on Thursday March 28, 2019.
 
She was born on August 4, 1923 in Best, Nebraska to Clyde Raymond and Mary Irene (Taylor) Grimes. As a young woman, she moved to Denver, Colorado to work in a munitions plant in support of the WWII war effort. She later returned to Nebraska where she met her lifelong soul mate Warren Wayne Welch.
 
She is survived by her two children, Dan Welch and Linda Anderson; a brother, (Eldon) and two sisters, (Capitola and Marie). She was a great mother and friend and worked hard all of her life to help provide a loving home for her family.
 
Her son and daughter will be taking her remains to Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado
later this spring. Where she will once again be together with her loving husband.
 
There will be no services in Deming and just a simple remembrance at the grave side per her request. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

CATALINA MORALES

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Catalina Morales, age 86 of Deming passed Saturday March 30th, after 20+ years of battling cancer. 

Visitation will be this Friday, April 5, 2019 from 4 to 6 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o’clock.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday April 6, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating.  Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.

She was born July 2, 1932 in Deming NM to Luis Flores and Margarita Macias-Flores. Catalina was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church and was a member of the League of Sacred Heart. She will be remembered for her volunteer work at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum. 

Catalina is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, one daughter Yvonne Chavez, one grandchild, Michael Anthony Garcia and her husband Willie Morales. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Socorro Ponce, Dolores Duran, children Julie Luna (Jr.), Helen Morales, Yolanda Morales, Willie Morales Jr., Marty Garcia (Albert), Dodo Teague (Leon).  Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.  
 
Pallbearers will be Tom Luna, Cam Teague, Leon Teague, Chevy Teague, Marc Garcia, Tiagunia Hayes and Nick Brook.
 
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematory.
