JOVITA E. ESCOBAR, 95, resident of Deming passed away Friday May 24, 2019 at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City.

Visitation will be Friday May 31, 2019 at 8:30 in the morning at St. Ann Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 9 o’clock. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 o’clock at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating. 

Concluding services and interment will be at 1 o’clock at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Gaspar.

Jovita was born February 15, 1924 in Hanover, New Mexico to Felipe and Pomposa (Rodriguez) Esparza.                         

She has lived in Deming all her life and had worked at Deming Goodwill for some time.  Jovita was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in which she was very active and was a member of the Sacred Heart.

She is survived by her sister, Susie Carreon of Bayard, NM; many nieces, nephews and godchildren.  Jovita was preceded in death by her husband, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Charles William Chadborn

CHARLES WILLIAM CHADBORN, 53, resident of Deming passed away Tuesday May 21, 2019.

No services will be held. 

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

Charles was born March 9, 1966 in Deming to Charles T. and Estelle (Darrow) Chadborn.  He was a machinest and had worked in Bayfield, Colorado and locally at Border Foods.
He is survived by his parents, Charles T. and Estelle Chadborn of Deming; children, Austin Chadborn, Audrey Chadborn and Galileah Chadborn; sisters, Cindy Martinez and Charlene Mutz; and his grandson Jace Chadborn.

Elizabeth J. White, former resident of Deming died Friday May 10, 2019 in Silver City.

Called home to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away reserved in heaven for you.


She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on July 25, 1926 to Frank and Elizabeth (Reyburn) Sheldrake. Elizabeth is survived by her twin sons, David F. White and Stephen H. White of Garson, Ontario; one sister, Marion Kirk of Hamilton, Ontario; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Carrera and Lois DeGraffenreid; and three great grandsons, Timothy and Joshua Carrera and Elliot DeGraffenreid.

A graveside service will be Thursday May 16, 2019 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Mt. View Cemetery.

Fernando Gutierrez Calderon

Fernando Gutierrez Calderon, 41, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Friday, May 10, 2019 at his residence.

Fernando was born on August 11, 1977 to Isidro Calderon and Guadalupe Gutierrez in Deming, NM. He is survived by both of his parents; two brothers, Robert Acosta and his wife Jaynie Perez of Deming, NM and Steven Calderon; two sisters, Amorette Calderon and Monique Calderon and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 11:30am-12pm with the holy rosary beginning at 12pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapel with Maria S. Lozano officiating. Funeral mass will then begin at 1pm at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father, Alejandro Reyes officiating.

Cremation will then take place at Terrazas Crematory. An inurnment will then be on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2pm at Mountain View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Richard Argant, Salvador Gutierrez Jr., Miguel A. Hernandez, Roberto M. Acosta, Josafat Ballinas and David Gutierrez.

Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels & Cremator.

Arthur Manuel Caballero

Arthur Manuel Caballero, 79, formerly of Deming, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Arthur was born July 5, 1939 to Lucinda Perrault and Arthur Caballero in Dwyer, NM. His love for the great outdoors began at an early age spending time on the Perrault family ranch in the Mimbres Valley. He spent his young life riding horses with his cousins, Raymond and Larry Perrault, branding cattle, tending to the animals, running through the orchard and river near the ranch, and helping his grandfather and father run the M. Caballero and Son General Store in Dwyer.

Arthur was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and riding his horse in the Gila Wilderness. He spent every opportunity he could doing what he loved and was most at peace enjoying God’s gift of nature. He had an intense love for his family, especially his six beloved sisters, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by daughter, Julie Martin and husband Guy of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sons, Victor Caballero of Deming, NM and Daniel Caballero of El Paso, TX; sisters, Bertha Quarrell and husband Barney of Tucson, AZ, Nancy Chaires and husband Edward of Las Cruces, NM, Rita Lambert and husband Roger of Austin, TX, Manuelita Maynes and husband Jasper of Deming, NM, Loretta Casillas and husband Manny of El Paso, TX; 2 grandchildren, Jessica Quiroga and husband David of Atlanta, GA and Autumn Caballero of San Antonio, TX; 2 great-grandchildren, Xzavier Caballero and Alyssa Nunez.

Visitation will begin at 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with a rosary to follow at 6 o’clock. Mass will begin at 12 o’clock on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church with the Christian Burial concluding services and interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Manuel Ibarra will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers are Kenny Rutz, Billy Chaires, Jasper Maynes Jr., Tomas Casillas, Ruben Casas and Ray Trejo Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Perrault, Larry Perrault, Tony Perrault, Manny Casillas Jr., Barney Joe Quarrell.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lucinda Caballero; sister, Marcella Rutz.

Frank Brown

Frank Brown of Deming, New Mexico was called Home May 5, 2019 at the age of 93.

He was born March 5, 1926 in Minneola, Kansas, the youngest of 8 children.  After being raised on a farm, he enlisted in the army at the age of 17 and bravely served our country in WWII proudly. He was injured during a battle in the Vosges Mountains, which are between France and Germany and then was honorably discharged having received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his service, he traveled to the north pacific where he built houses with his brother. Eventually he made his way to Australia where he worked the opal mines and ultimately met his wife, Jean Matten.

Frank and Jean were married in 1968 and had two children. The family eventually settled in Deming in 1975, which he called home for the remainder of his days. Frank worked various jobs throughout his life, but his most rewarding “job” was sharing his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus with anyone all that he encountered.

Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2007 and is survived by his 2 children, James (Maria) of San Diego CA and Meredith (Eric) of Cheyenne WY and one grandchild, Jaden also of Cheyenne WY.
 
The family will be celebrating Frank’s life Friday, May 10 at the La Fonda Restaurant starting at 4 pm. Please join us for sharing memories.

Albert Cordova, 52, former resident of Deming passed away Monday May 6, 2019 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces.
 
Visitation will be on Friday May 10, 2019 beginning at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Deming. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3 o’clock at Mountain View Cemetery with Pastor Lorriane Silva officiating.
 
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny, Chris and Albert Jr. Cordova, Jaime and Raul Rodriguez, and Richard Casillas.

MANUEL RUIZ GUILLEN, 89, resident of Deming passed away Friday May 3, 2019 at Willow Manor.

Visitation will be Friday May 10, 2019 at 10 0’clock in the morning at St. Ann Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 10:30.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 o’clock with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.

Manuel was born February 16, 1930 in Colorado to Manuel and Francisca (Ruiz) Guillen. He has lived in Deming since 1993 having moved here from Los Angeles, California where he owned and operated an upholstery business. Locally he did some upholstery work and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

He is survived by his daughter Irma Guillen; sons Armando, Antonio and Daniel; brothers Ruben and Jose; sister Maria Elena and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Tomasa.

Myrna Lou Hewitt

Myrna Lou Hewitt, 89, longtime Deming resident passed away Sunday April 28, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.
 
No services will take place as were her wishes. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
 
Myrna was born April 19, 1930 to Ila Mae Armstrong and John Willis Johnson in Duncan, Arizona.  She moved to Deming in 1984 coming from Aztec, NM and was a homemaker.  She had a passion for ceramics and loved to read.  She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family.
 
She is survived by her children, Carol I. Day of Deming, Richard D. Hewitt and wife Cheryl of Aztec, Louise Roller and husband Dan of Deming and Charles A. Hewitt and wife Barbara of Texas; 5 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
 
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ila Mae Johnson; husband, Franklin L. Hewitt and grandson, Franklin Michael Hewitt.

Margarita “Margie” P. Almanza, 81, lifetime Deming resident entered eternal rest Tuesday April 30, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
 
Visitation will be on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at twelve o’clock in the afternoon at River of Life Citi Church. Funeral services will follow at two o’clock with Pastor Cesar Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
 
Margie is survived by brother, Johnny (Tommy) Almanza of Midland, TX; 6 sisters, Juanita” Jennie” (Narciso) Dominguez, Lilly (Manny) Rodriguez, Monica Perez, Ramona Rodriguez all of Deming, Delia Loya of Las Cruces and Catherine Rodriguez of Tucson, AZ.
 
Preceding her in death are her parents, Isidoro Almanza and Eulojia Pedraza; brother, Manuel Almanza; brother-in-laws, Joe Perez Sr., Joe Rodriguez, Max Loya and Jesus Rodriguez Sr.
 
Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Perez, Daniel Renteria, Jesse and Armando Almanza, Manny Jr., Matthew and Jesus Rodriguez.
