While many of her contemporaries followed more traditional roles.  Jan developed and enjoyed a profession in which she expressed her considerable artistic talent while also traveling widely.

Janice was a highly skilled interpreter of the natural world and her medium was pen and ink. During the 1960’s and 1970’s she traveled throughout the country exhibiting her technique as a representative of the A.T. Janice Barton met Edwin Gunlock during this time. The two remained happily married and devoted to one another until Ed’s passing in November 2018. They traveled widely in the 1970’s through the 2000’s, both domestically and internationally.  Ed documented their travels in a vivid photographic record that spans the 1960’s through the 1990’s. Mr. and Mrs. Gunlock resided in Las Vegas, Nevada during the years from 1965 until the late 1990’s, and relocated to Silver City, New Mexico in the early 2000’s.

Jan was predeceased by her beloved husband Ed but is survived by her former daughter-in-law LeeAnn Allen, and by LeeAnn’s children, Eli Allen and Emily Allen.  She is survived by her brother-in-law David Gunlock, and his wife JoAnn Gunlock, of Manor, Texas, and his son, Kenny.  Jan is also survived by brother-in-law Richard E. Gunlock, of Magnolia, Tex., and by Richard’s children, Rick Gunlock and Brett Gunlock, and their respective families, as well as her sister-in-law Bev's children Steve, Doug and Patti.
