Lois Makar

On Friday, March 22, 2019, Lois Makar, beloved mother of 4 children, passed away in Deming, at age 85, after a battle with lung disease. She will be interred in Deming.

Lois was born on September 13, 1933, in Steelton, PA. She and her family moved to Bridgeport, CT when she was a baby. She grew up in Bridgeport, and attended Bassick HS. She met her future husband, John Makar, there, and in 1955 they married. John predeceased Lois in 2003, after a 48-year marriage.
 
A long time CT resident, Lois worked as a legal secretary and was very active in the Lutheran Church.
 
She and John moved to Deming, NM, in 1997, where they made a home for themselves to enjoy their retirement. Lois remained very active in the church, working with the local Synod, and other church and women’s groups. She also became a fixture around her adopted hometown, becoming very popular and well known within the community through her work with meals on wheels, becoming a children’s advocate, and working in the local art gallery.
 
Lois is survived by her 4 children, Sharon, Neil, Audrey, and David. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Brianna, Marc, John, and Drew, and by great grandchildren Nevin and Evie. She also leaves behind sister in law Ruth Makar, and nieces Karen and Lisa.

Joseph (Joe) Edgar Brown

Joseph (Joe) Edgar Brown, 88, Deming resident passed away Tuesday March 26, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 30, 2019 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel.  Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
 
“Joe,” as he was affectionately known, was born January 6, 1931 to Ethel Lorie Holloway and Oran Lynne Brown in Louisville, Kansas.  Joe served his country honorably in the US Navy and locally owned JEB Construction for many years.  He loved hunting and enjoyed his yearly trips to Las Vegas with his wife, Bonnie.  He was a successful competitive rifle shooter and registered Potawatomi Indian. 
 
Joe is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; son, Bill Brown and wife Rosa of Fairfield, TX; daughter, Cheryl Rouse and husband Frank of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Jennifer Jo Rouse, Christen Baize; 1 great-grandchild, Taylor Jo Baize; sister, Lynn Mosely and husband Mick of Las Cruces and his 3 cats that he called “babies”.
 
Preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Geraldine Crouch and Ruth Cowles.

Edwina Maria (Mary) Coon

Edwina Maria (Mary) Coon passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2019 at age 81.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at 6 o’clock in the evening at Baca’s Funeral Chapel.  Please join us to celebrate her life.

She was born in Albuquerque, NM to Demetrio and Guadalupe Saiz and was the sixth of 8 children. She has lived in Deming since 1986 and was retired from Boeing where she was an aircraft mechanic having retired from there in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her 4 brothers and a sister. She is survived by her husband Ronald Coon, her daughter, Debbie Valdez and 2 sons Joe and Louie Valdez.   She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Helen Vargas and Antoinette Candelaria; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary loved to laugh, dance and sing and when she could she loved to go to the casino.

Lena Mae Haynes

LENA MAE HAYNES, 69, a lifelong resident of Deming passed away Thursday March 14, 2019 at the Catalina Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Tucson.
Visitation will be Thursday March 21, 2019 from 4 to 7 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday morning, March 22, 2019 at 10 o’clock at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with Minister Charles Prince officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
Lena Mae, known to many as Lena Mae Haynes Jr. was born February 26, 1950 to Robert and Lena Mae Haynes. She graduated from Deming High School and afterward attended business school in Albuquerque where she attained an Associates degree in business. Locally she worked at Motel 6 for over 20 years and was an avid bowler. Over the years she won many tournaments. Lena Mae loved life and her family remembers her as being a loving mother who was always kind a generous to those around her.
She is survived by her daughter, Lakeisha A. Haynes-Welsh (William) of Las Cruces; her sons, Thomas Green of El Paso, Texas and Emanuel Green of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Willie James Haynes of Deming, Robert Wendell Haynes Jr. of Deming, Jimmy Haynes of Detroit, Michigan, Billy Roy Haynes of Las Cruces, Henry Lee Haynes of Arlington, Texas, Fred Haynes of Deming; sisters, Lucille Haynes Holmes of Demng, Louise Haynes Tatum of Detroit, Michigan, Virginia Henrietta Haynes of Las Cruces, and Mary Alethia Haynes-Patterson of Las Cruces. She was preceded in death by one daughter Alberta Haynes Shelton.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Joe Haynes, Michael Paul Haynes, Emanuel Green, Thomas Green, Billy Roy Haynes, and William Welsh.

Romelia Montez Trujillo

Romelia Montez Trujillo, 93, passed away Tuesday March 19, 2019 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home.
 
Visitation will be Thursday March 21, 2019 at 9 o’clock in the morning at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church with a rosary to follow at 9:30.  Mass of the Christian Burial will begin at 10 o’clock at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Manuel F. Ibarra officiating.  Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
 
Romelia was born September 26, 1925 to Raquela Garcia and Julian Montez in Hatch.  She was a homemaker and was an active member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church.  Romelia loved the outdoors, camping, and always had food on the table, feeding her children, family and friends. 
 
She is survived by husband, Victor G. Trujillo of the home; daughter, Olivia Brown of Deming; 4 sons, Larry Trujillo of Las Cruces, Victor Trujillo Jr and wife Teresa of Juarez, MX, Tommy Trujillo and wife Roberta of Las Cruces, Richard Trujillo and Jan of Deming; brother, Julian Montez Jr. of Hatch; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Raquela Montez;  and 2 brothers, Alejandro and Soilo Montez.

Tammy Lee Hamel Wiggins

“I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back".
Tammy Lee Hamel Wiggins, 32, of Deming, NM passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Tammy Lee was born June 7, 1986 in Deming, New Mexico. She was the beautiful daughter of Jim and Susie Hamel. Growing up, Tammy enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors with family and friends. She worked hard in school and received her diploma from Deming High School. After graduation, Tammy worked in the healthcare field taking care of those in need. She met and married Frank Wiggins March 28, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Luna County.

Tammy had a love for life. Her smile radiated kindness to others and when she smiled, one could not help but smile back. Tammy loved spending time family, friends, and her faithful dog Odie. She touched so many people in her life. Tammy was a loving and a caring daughter and friend who always thought of others first. “To know her was to love her.”

Tammy was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Louise Hamel; paternal grandparents Ruth and John Poudrier of Deming; maternal grandparents Molly and Frank Murphy of Deming.

Tammy is survived by her spouse Frank Wiggins (Deming); parents Susie (David) Hamel (Deming) & Jim (Connie) Hamel (Deming); siblings- Kayla Hamel (Tuscan, AZ), Sheri (Melissa) Loughborough ( Wichita, KS), Brandy Loughborough (Las Cruces, NM); Nieces Nicole, Anastasia, Emma, and Katrina; and so many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

The family invites you to the Celebration of Tammy’s life that will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 with the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. The funeral service will then begin at 2:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapel. Concluding services with an interment will be at Mountain View cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Rocko Ortiz, Carlos Montoya, Eddie Graham, William Young, Lisa Gonzales, Brianna Granillo, Crystal Lujan and Jose Muñoz.  On behalf of the family, flowers and/or donations may be sent to Terrazas Funeral Chapel.

Eva C. Tarazon, 89, a resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Casa Del Sol Center in Las Cruces, NM.

Eva was born on August 9, 1929 in Globe, AZ to Bernardo Caballero and Macaria Holguin. She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Bramer and her husband Rodney of Virginia and Sandra Melchor and her husband Ralph Rodriguez of Las Cruces, NM; two grandsons, Mikal Justmann and his wife Penny and Corbin Gravois and his wife Julia and three great grandchildren, Wesley, Keenan and Rivers Justmann. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Michael Tarazon.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10am at St. Ann Catholic Church with father, Manuel Ibarra officiating.

Concluding services with an interment will be at Mountain View cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Garcia, Mikal Justmann, Corbin Gravois, Wesley Justmann, Ralph Rodriguez and Hugo Figueroa.

Richard Lee Teeple, Jr.

Richard Lee Teeple, Jr. affectionately know as “Rick” and “Ricky”, age 54, passed away on February 18, 2019 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming, New Mexico.

Ricky, son of Pauline Hervol Teeple and Richard Lee Teeple, Sr. was born October 29, 1964 in Deming, NM. Ricky was a Catholic and lifelong Deming resident. He graduated from Deming High School in 1983 and then attended Dona Anna Beauty College in Las Cruces after which he became a licensed cosmetologist. Ricky was a cosmetologist for the past 35 years.

Ricky is preceded in death by his sister Runette Edwards and both of his parents. He is survived by sisters Roellen Kemper of Las Vegas, NV, Rosemary Huber of Deming, NM, Kay Coussons of Vernon, TX, Elisabeth Teeple of Clifton, NJ, and Angela aka “Angie” McLain (Keith) of Colfax, WA. Ricky also leaves behind 7 nieces, 5 nephews, numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, and close friends.

During his time on earth, Ricky touched many lives and made a lot of friends. Whether you knew him all his life or just a few minutes, he considered you a friend. We are touched by so many of you reaching out to the family with your kind words, prayers, love and support. Nobody could do hair like him!! We will not only miss his talent at doing hair, but his laugh, kindness, willingness to help, smile, personality, the way he genuinely cared about others, and just his presence!! He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all he met.

Friends of Ricky and his family are doing fund raisers to help with the expenses! All money from fundraisers and donations can be taken to Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Deming, NM. He was cremated and a Celebration of Ricky’s Life will take place at a later time. As soon as it is planned, we will announce the date, time, and place on Facebook so please keep an eye out!! We want as many of his friends and family there as possible.
