Lino Andres Chavez

Lino Andres Chavez, 55, has gone to be with the Lord on Monday, July 19, 2021.

Lino graduated from T or C High School. He worked at McDonalds and Deming Headlight. He spent many years selling the newspaper around Deming and in front of the Post Office. Lino knew no strangers. His job of selling newspaper was proof of it. You could also find him at the Wildcats games.

Lino is survived by his brother, Martin Acosta and sister, Jessica and his Aunt Josie Herrera, Rosie Medina, Virginia Sprunk, Lorrie (Joe Morales) and Uncle Jimmy Chavez (Lupe).

Holy Rosary will be recited on Saturday August 7, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church led by Patsy Leyba. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jesus Martinez officiating. Inurnment will follow at Garfield Cemetery. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First New Mexico Bank under Lino A. Chavez towards funeral costs.

Dorothy Ethel Jackson

Dorothy Ethel Jackson, 96, a resident of Gila, NM passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. She was born November 8, 1924 in Silver City to George H. Cureton and Edith S. Sloan Cureton. She was raised on a ranch north of Lordsburg, NM. Dorothy attended the Lordsburg Schools and graduated there. After graduation she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ for a year where she met and married George Jackson Sr. She was a resident of Gila, NM since 1949. She was Postmaster there for 30years. After retiring she became a Real Estate Broker and worked with her husband George.

She is survived by three sons, George Jackson Jr., (Mayra); Thomas Jackson (Thorma) and Joe Jackson (Melba); ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Jackson Sr., and one great grandchild.​

Visitation will be Saturday, July 31st at 1-2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with the Rev. David Goble officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Bayard National Cemetery on Monday, August 2nd with a direct burial no family present. Pallbearers will be Levi Jackson, Chris Webber, Ned Jackson, Shawn Hall, Stewart and Calvin Rooks. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.

Felipe J. Ramos

Felipe J. Ramos, 88, longtime Deming resident passed away Monday July 26, 2021 at his home surrounded by his children.
 
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon, July 28, 2021 beginning at 4 o'clock at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o’clock led by Irma Jaurequi.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock Thursday morning at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Father Jesus Martinez, Pastor, officiating.
 
Felipe was born October 18, 1932 to Amparo Jurado and Francisco Ramos in Rodeo, Durango, Mexico.  He moved to Deming in 1959 coming from Mexico and was a communicant of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. Felipe loved to garden, especially caring for his nopales. One of his favorite pastimes was to fix and tinker with anything that needed to be fixed. He will be remembered for the love he had for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
 
He is survived by his sons, Felipe Ramos and wife Sandra P. of Morenci, AZ, Javier Ramos and wife Diane C. of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Maria “Lolita” Tapia and husband Albert of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Cosme Ramos of Fresno, CA; sister, Lupita Jurado of Rodeo, Durango, MX; grandchildren, Felipe Roman and wife Jessica and Diego Ramos, Sara Ann Martinez and husband Estevan; Isaiah Javier and wife Julie, Abran Javier, Antonio Javier and Marina Elena Ramos, Valeria Brigida and Brianna Yasmine Tapia; great-grandchild, Katalina Aslynn and Dante Gabriel Martinez, Adyson Elizabeth, Christian Robert, Sylas Rafael and Felipe Roman IV Ramos and Ezequiel Anthony Lopez Tapia. 
 
Felipe was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Amparo Ramos; his wife, Dolores Ramos; brother, Ignacio Ramos; sisters, Maria, Guadalupe and Catalina Ramos.  
 
Serving as pallbearers are Felipe Roman Ramos, Diego Ramos, Isaiah Javier Ramos, Abran Javier Ramos Antonio Javier Ramos and Sara Ann Martinez.
 
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

Willie Fay (Susie) Morris

MORRIS: Willie Fay (Susie) Morris of Silver City passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Millie’s Assisted Living. Mrs. Morris was born January 21, 1925 to William and Fay Johnson in Memphis, Texas. She married Clyde Morris in 1946 in Memphis, TX. She worked for the Telephone Co as a Service Representative at Memphis and Breckenridge, TX. After moving to Silver City in 1960, she was Secretary at Jose Barrios Elementary School for 22 years.

She is survived by one son, Michael Morris and his wife Jo Anne of Montana; one daughter in-law, Rita Morris of Lordsburg; three granddaughters, Brenda Morris and her husband Andy Lockridge of Montana; Debbie Morris of Phoenix, AZ; and Kim Morris of Athens, Georgia, and one brother, Pat Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clyde Morris; her son, Glenn Morris.
At her request, no service will be held. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.

Rondy M. Jones, 91, a resident of Springfield, MO formerly of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, July 15, 2021 at his residence.  He was born August 26, 1929 in Rock Island, Ill. to Henry Jones and Grace Allen Jones.  

Dad (Ron) traveled to Hawaii many times he loved the Islands. He enjoyed fishing with good friends and being drove around listening to country music. Dad loved beating friends and family at a game of Skip Bo. Special thanks to Ed and Layla who took special and loving care of our 
Dad. Thank you to Havens Hospice. You may be gone from our sight but you are never gone from my heart.
 


He is survived by one son, John Jones of 
Andalusa, ILL; three daughters, Cindy Rucker and husband Spike of Floresville, TX; Renee Meredith and husband Eugene of Aledo, ILL; Ronda Roberson of Alexis, ILL; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Isabel C. Jones (2011); and brothers and sisters.
 


​A Graveside service with full military honors will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 27
th at 1pm at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.

Joe M. Rodriguez

Joe M. Rodriguez, 78, a resident of Bayard, NM, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born “in space” (Santa Rita) on March 13, 1943, to Rufina Martinez and Jose Rodriguez. He was well known for his loving, generous heart. He was very proud to have served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Navy. He worked most of his life at the mine and worked a few years for the county before retiring. Joe married the love of his life Beatriz in 1967 and together raised four amazing children. He was a loving father but was never shy of expressing his tough love when needed. He was a very proud father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play little league and high school baseball a long side his partner in crime Jr. Valerio. He attended numerous all-star and high school state tournaments. Joe was a die-hard Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Angels fan and shared his love for sports with his grandkids. Grandpa Joe’s and Grandma Betty’s was the place to be on football Sunday where Grandma Betty would have a nice meal prepared to feed an army and Gramps would tell us all about his good old days. He loved being outdoors in God’s country where he and his family shared many memories together whether it be a fishing or hunting trip or just a nice day for a cookout at the Ft. Bayard Bataan Memorial Park where he had great pride in being a part of its construction when he worked for the county. He was a kindhearted jokester who wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved the pranks and laughter he shared with his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. His family was his world. He and Betty set the example for the family on how love, laughter, and respect was very important. Dad, Gramps, Tio, friend . . . you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Your legacy will forever be remembered and appreciated. You taught us how to work hard but to remember family is always important.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Beatriz (Betty) of 54 years; four children Joe Jr. Rodriguez (DeeAnn), Roxanne Quintana (Gabe), Robert Rodriguez, and Marisela Rodriguez; 10 grandchildren Frankie, Nanette, Vanessa, Joseph, Gabriel, Marissa, Elijah, Adrienne, Damion, and Daeven; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Rufina Martinez, sister Eva Campos, nephew David Campos and grandparents Joaquina and Sidronio Martinez.

Visitation will be Monday, July 19th from 11-11:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the funeral service to commence at 11:30am with Pastor Joseph Gros officiating.

Concluding service and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers are Frankie Morales, Joseph Rodriguez, Gabriel Quintana, Elijah Kirker, Damion and Daeven Torres. Honorary pallbearer is Rudy Valerio.

Hilda R. Terrazas

Hilda R. Terrazas, 74, a resident of Bayard, NM entered eternal rest Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. She was born April 2, 1947 in Casas Grandes, Mexico to Jose and Josefina Rodriguez.

Hilda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Some of her favorite pastimes were knitting blankets, painting ceramics, going to yard sales, and collecting elephants to add to her amazing collection. She especially enjoyed watching and supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at all their activities and events. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan as well as a Chicago Cubs fan. She will most fondly be remembered for her cooking every meal prepared with her tender and loving hands which came through in dish. Her homemade tortillas often caused a friendly dispute amongst her children and grandchildren as to whom they were made for.

Hilda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carlos Terrazas; three sons, Carlos Terrazas Jr. of Hurley, NM, David Terrazas and companion Doris Sierra of Hurley, NM and Robert Terrazas and wife Susie of Bayard, NM; as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Three sisters, Rosa (Theodoro) Guerrero, Hortencia Villegas, Maria Prieto and two brothers, Freddie (Carmen) and Jose Luis (Elvira) Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved daughter Teresa Terrazas, brothers Rudolfo, Rogelio and Eddie Rodriguez and sister Romelia Almanza.

The holy rosary will be celebrated on Friday, July 16th at 8am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with the funeral mass to follow at 8:30am with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating both. Concluding service cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Inurnment will take place at Hurley Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Armando Almanza, Lydia Brown, Maria Terrazas-Orosco, Darlene McBride, Robert Terrazas Jr., Cruz Terrazas, Carlos Terrazas III and Viviana Terrazas. Honorary pallbearers are Carmelita Almanza and remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory.

Florence M. Cruz

Florence M. Cruz, 72, entered eternal rest Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Luna Care Group Home in Tucson, AZ.  She was born in Cimarron, NM on July 29, 1948 to Filiberto Arellano and Fedilina Vargas.  She was the youngest daughter of a large family which included four sisters and two brothers.

She married Joe Cruz Jr. on June 4, 1966 in Cimarron, NM.  Joe passed away on Nov. 27, 2020; they were married for fifty-four years.  They had one daughter, Angela (Jimmy) and one son, Billy (Cynthia).  They had six grandchildren, Kevin (Issai), Patick Jr., Jesse (Jessica), Jaime (Genevieve), Desiree (Angel), and Matthew (Arisela); seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Ezmia, Marques, Elexis, Sophia, Azzi, and Xavier.  She is survived by her sister, Beatrice; brother, Frank (Mary) and Fred (Diane); also numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, great grandson, Baby Lorenzo; sisters, Jane, Lily and Stella.

She was a wonderful mother, sister, daughter, grandmother.  She was such a strong woman.  She lived through pain but never once complained.  When asked she would simply say. “I’m fine”.  She loved her TV shows, Days of Our Lives, Kelly and Ryan, Judge Judy and when it came to the weekends, it was Hallmark channel all day.  She also enjoyed AZ sports; but most of all family gatherings was truly her favorite time.  She was loved by many and touched many lives throughout the years.  She will be truly missed. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13th from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary being recited by John Prejean to commence at 6pm.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 14th at 9:30am at St. Francis Newman Center with Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem officiating.  Concluding service cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.  Inurnment will take place at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery where both husband and wife will be laid to rest.  Pallbearers are Patrick Cisneros Jr., Kevin and Jesse Cruz, Jaime Cisneros, Matthew Tracy, and Angel Alarcon.

Catherine Carr McMillan

Catherine Carr McMillan February 23, 1945 – May 24, 2021

Catherine (Cathy) Carr McMillan, 76, a resident of Silver City, New Mexico entered eternal rest Monday, May 24, 2021. Cathy was born February 23, 1945 in Watertown, South Dakota to Bernard Carr and Pauline Wirtz Carr. She attended grade school and high school in Watertown and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from South Dakota State University.

She married Alvin McMillan in 1967 and they raised six children. She resided in Silver City since 1972. Cathy taught in Lordsburg, Roswell, and finally Silver City where she retired as an English teacher and librarian from Silver High School in 2010. She also served as a Horace Mann Insurance agent from 1991 to 2002. She was involved in many community activities over the years including La Leche League, Community Concert, and instructed water exercise classes at Western New Mexico University. She was a member of 24 Club, Imagination Library, and Kappa Sorority, now known as Belles for Education. Cathy was always interested in gardening, solar energy, and energy efficient homes. She designed the family’s first home in Silver City and designed and was the contractor for her retirement home, which was completed in 2009. Her retirement home was awarded the Green Building Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification. She loved and spent numerous hours tending to her garden as well as helping with several community gardens in the area. Cathy also enjoyed hiking in the Gila wilderness, reading, and traveling to many countries throughout the world, mostly with her sister (27 in total). She was most proud of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her six children and 11 grandchildren. Michael and Ann of Silver City and their children; Parker, Josh, and Luke; Mark and Clare of Denver and their children, Trevor and Jack; Matthew and Elaine of Albuquerque; Martin and Amanda of Deming and their children Lily, Kaylee, and Josiah; Mitchell and Harumi of Nagoya, Japan and their children Maaya, Kanta, and Karin; and Margaret of Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Carr, Alvin McMillan, and her sister, Margaret Bushon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. Memorials may be made to Imagination Library of Grant County at 1915 North Swan Street Silver City, New Mexico 88061.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Funeral Crematory.

Daniel Arthur Iverson

Daniel Arthur Iverson
Dan Iverson, born December 5th, 1937 in Bemidji, MN died July 27, 2021 at home in Silver City, NM.

Dan, the son of Arthur and Evelyn (Applen) Iverson, spent most of his formative years on the farm in Minnesota, graduating from Bagley High School in 1955. He served in the Navy for four years, met and married Jean Scherich and moved his young family from Van Nuys California to Eagle, Idaho in the early 70’s. His soul was at home in the mountains of Idaho, where he could fish and hunt to his heart's content.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a proud “Son of Norway”. He retired from IBM at 54 and they hit the road. Dan lived the life he wanted, where he wanted it and with the woman he loved for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Jean; son Sven-Eric Iverson, daughters, Shirley Gragg, and Kari Lane (Dale), Grandchildren; Bryan Maeen (Brittany), Jordan Maeen, Breanne Door (Dakota), Alli Lane, Jasper Lane, and Dutch Lane, and 5 great Grandchildren. As well as his sisters, Rebecca Winslow (Bob) and Ruth Iverson He taught us all to laugh, change a tire, build a fire, and shoot whistle pigs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother David and younger brother, Bryan. His ashes will be placed in the Idaho wilderness along with his little brother, so they can watch the wildlife go by. No formal services are planned.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.
