Armando C. Benavidez

Armando C. Benavidez, 80, lifelong resident entered eternal rest on Sunday June 21, 2020.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 1, 2020 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with a rosary service to follow at 6 o’clock led by Irma Juarequi with Covid restrictions in place. Cremation will follow at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory. Inurnment will take place Thursday July 2, 2020 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra will officiate.

Armando was born April 6, 1940 to Esperanza Centeno and Jose Benavidez in Deming. He owned and operated his own business as a landscaper for many years before retiring. Armando loved to play cards, always purchasing lottery tickets and one of his favorite pastimes was bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Angelina of the home; sons, Xavier Benavidez and his wife Nadia of AZ, Carlos Apodaca and his wife Michelle of Deming; daughters, Sandra Benavidez of AZ, Yolanda Benavidez of NM; brother, Carlos Benavidez and his wife Sandra of CA; sisters, Ernestina Sainz and Hortencia Tarazon both of Deming, Theresa Shore and her husband Ronald of CA, Aurora Vega and her husband Jimmy of TX; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Armando was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Esperanza Benavidez; sister, Inez Ceballos; brothers, Raul, Domingo and Andres Benavidez.

JUAN ORDOÑEZ, 87, resident of Deming passed away Monday June 22, 2020 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home.

Public visitation was set for Thursday June 25, 2020 from 3 to 7 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with Covid 19 restrictions in place. The immediate family will gather later for a private Rosary service. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday June 26th at 11 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Alex Ureña officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Juan Enrique Ordoñez Jr., Juan Antonio Reyes Jr., Johnathan Ordoñez, Marco Chavira, granddaughter, Cynthea Molina and great-grandson, Jaime Molina. Honorary bearers are his grandchildren: Daniel Jose Ordoñez, Julian Ordoñez, Elizabeth Ordoñez, Brian Avila, Mathew Avila, Diana Barragan, Sara A. Reyes and Michael Ordoñez.

Juan was born March 22, 1933 in the Colonia Fernandez Leal, Chihuahua, Mexico to Refugio Juarez and Juan B. Ordoñez. In 1956, as a young man, he moved to work in agriculture in California and Arizona and returned and married Martha Parra on November 17, 1956. Juan worked at the U-Bar and Uvas Valley in agriculture until 1972 when he began his own construction company and worked in El Paso. He moved his family from Deming to El Paso in 1976 where he continued with his business as a contractor. Upon his retirement in 1995, he moved back to Deming where he kept himself busy with rental properties. Juan was a devout member of the Catholic Church.

Survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha of the home; children, Juan Enrique Ordoñez (Laura), Teresa Molina (Ricardo), Martha Reyes (Juan), Fernando Ordoñez (Sylvia) and God-daughter, Guillermina Ailor (Bradley); 13 grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren and a sister: Socorro Mercado (Raul).

Preceded in death by his parents Juan and Refugio Ordoñez, two brothers; Miguel and Guillermo Ordoñez and sisters Francisca Alvarez and Clara Ozata.

Consuelo “Chelo” Jaurequi

On Tuesday, June 23, 2020 Consuelo “Chelo” Jaurequi born on April 8,1936 to Antonio and Catarina Jaramillo passed away peacefully in her childhood home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 67 years Jose Jaurequi. Her sons Joe Jaurequi Jr. and Sammy Jaurequi (Sandra Renee Jaurequi), as well as her beloved family Natalia Palacio, Tony Jaramillo, Lorenza “Lencha” Lopez, and her grandson Eddie Joe Jaurequi.


Chelo, a lifelong resident of Silver City was a devoted wife to her “Viejo” and helped to nurture his love of Santaro Art. Together their Catholic faith enriched their marriage and life. She was known to capture the heart of anyone that was blessed to have met her. Her precious smile and contagious laugh rooted the seeds of love and kindness in her children and grandchildren. Her passion for the outdoors and family time will forever live in all her children and grandchildren’s’ memories. She is survived by Joe Parra (Cecilia Parra) of Silver City, Rosie Salas (Ventura Salas Sr.) of Rio Rancho, Sandra Ortiz (Samuel Ortiz Sr.) of Alamogordo and Ruben Jaurequi Sr. (Denise Jaurequi) of Arenas Valley. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and expecting number 25 soon and five great great grandchildren.

Grandma we will forever miss your warm embrace and you will be our beautiful strong Angel until we meet again.

Visitation will be Friday, June 26th from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. The holy rosary being recited by Deacon Bill Holguin will commence at 6pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27th at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Oliver Obele officiating. Restrictions still stand at 25% capacity and social distancing with face masks required.

Concluding service and interment will follow at St. Vincent Catholic cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ventura (Chico) Salas Jr., Danny Ortiz, Ruben Jaurequi Jr., Ventura “Andrew” Salas, Josiah Legarda, and Ruben Jaurequi III. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Turner, Steven Turner, Marcus Salas, Dominic Salas, Weston West, Everett West, Ociel Villicaña, Samuel Ortiz Jr., Daniel Simmon, Jacob Jaurequi, and Victor Jaurequi.

Larry E. (coach) Bintz

Larry E. (coach) Bintz, 80, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his residence in Silver City, NM. He was born in Estes Park, CO to Larry F. Bintz and Juanita Bintz.

Larry worked 35 years or the Ventura County Parks Dept and he never met a stranger, he was a lover of people and made friends easily. He always had a joke in his back pocket, candy in his front and could often be found whistling/singing a tune. After retiring he moved to Silver City, NM in 2003. He loved the outdoors, hunting, softball and coached for Silver High School under Duane Trewern while training kids’on the side.

​He is survived by his loving wife Jo Nita whom he met 62 years ago and they have been married 591/2 years; one son, Edward Alan Bintz (Christie); his daughter, Lanita Susanne Bintz (Don); his granddaughter which he raised like a daughter, Crystal Dawn Crabb (Randy); four grandchildren, Matthew Bintz, Caleb Bintz, Michael Andrew Yoder, and John Alan Brester; five great grandchildren, Jaeger Crabb, Stella Crabb, Haylie Yoder, Kaleb Yoder, and John Brester; three sisters, Larrilyne Bangs, Carol Stone and husband Stephen, and Francis Thacker.

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.

A Celebration of Life service will not be held at this time.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.

Roberto M. Fabela, 65, Deming resident entered eternal rest Saturday June 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

A wake will take place Tuesday June 23, 2020 at the family home beginning at 5 o’clock with recitation of the rosary. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Wednesday June 24, 2020 at 9 o’clock in the morning at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Father Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor will officiate.

Roberto was born June 30, 1954 in Ignacio Zaragoza Mexico to Maria Socorro Nevarez Lopez and Manuel Jesus Fabela Ortiz. He moved to Deming in 2010 coming from Colorado. Roberto enjoyed life to the fullest, his family was his first priority; he loved music, dancing, cooking for his family and spending time outdoors. Any chance he had he would ride horses.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Emma Fabela of the home; his mother, Maria Socorro Nevarez Lopez of CO; his children, Cecilia Fabela and her husband Juan Vigil of CO, Denisse Fabela and her husband Celso Gonzalez of Deming, Robert Fabela of CO; siblings, Guillermo Fabela and wife Silveria of CO, Delia Fabela and her husband Carlos of MX, Rafael Fabela and his wife Amalia of CO, Arturo Fabela and his wife Arcelia of MX and Dora Fabela and her husband Manuel of CO; 10 grandchildren, Nickolas, Juan Francisco, Gabriela, Santiago, Eduardo, Antonio, Marco, Damian, Sofia and Olivia; 1 great-grandchild, Mia.

Roberto was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Jesus Fabela Ortiz; sisters, Beatriz, Maria Elena and Melva Fabela.

Jean Arnetta Allen

Jean Arnetta Allen, 83, a resident of Hurley, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born August 19, 1936 in Canada to Harold M. Bird and Bernice J. Mondue Bird. Jean was an extremely talented lady. She loved crafting.

There wasn’t anything she didn’t accomplish that she set her mind to; and she enjoyed every minute of it. Jean loved her family most of all.

She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her; but most of all by her family. She will never be forgotten. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Eugene Allen of the family home; her six children, Mike, Steve, Patrick, and Marlin Jerald; Rickey and Billie Jean Allen; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jaime, Randall, and Brooke Jerald; Richard, James W., Amanda J., and Jefferson A. Allen; eleven great grandchildren.

No service will be held per her family request.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.

Ofelia Villegas Ramirez

Ofelia Villegas Ramirez passed away of natural causes on June 14, 2020, at the age of 84, at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by family and friends.

Ofelia was born in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. Ofelia became a Naturalized Citizen and lived in Bayard, NM for most of her childhood and young adult life until she married Raymundo Ramirez who proposed to her on a Ferris Wheel in Ajo, Arizona, in 1956. Ofelia enjoyed traveling; but found most joy when visiting with friends and family, especially when she was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ofelia was predeceased by her parents, Ventura and Elena Villegas, her husband, Raymundo Ramirez, and her sister, Emma, and brothers, Eddie, Paulino, Jesus, and Manuel. She is survived by her brother, Octavio, her two children, Norma and Robert, her four grandchildren, Brian, Karl, Crystal, and Cristina, and her six great grandchildren, Taylor, Justin, Phoenix, Ethan, Hazel, and Brielle.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, June 27th at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church 17111 W. Bell Road, Surprise, AZ 85374.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.

Jordan Michael “Mike” Holloway

Jordan Michael “Mike” Holloway, 80, passed away peacefully in his home in Silver City, New Mexico on June 8. Mike spent much of his career as an orthopedic surgeon at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

He retired from there in 2001 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and then spent several years teaching orthopedics in third world countries through Health Volunteers Overseas. He and his wife Margie Gibson moved to Silver City last September. Mike’s interest in Native health was the result of meeting two Gwich’in elders, and inspired his book Dreaming Bears, published by Epicenter Press in 2014.

He was a skilled outdoorsman who loved wild country, and worked to protect it as well as the subsistence way of life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son David Holloway and his wife Marilyn, and their daughters Mikayla and Lauren of Burnaby, BC, Canada. He also leaves behind his sister Barbara Smith of Pendleton, SC and brother Ted Holloway of Hoboken, GA.

Mr. Holloway will be having a Green burial at Fort Bayard National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 17th at 11am.

Restrictions due to the COVID-19 limits no more than 25 people and masks are mandatory.

Daniel Chavez

Daniel Chavez, 72, passed away on May 30th , 2020 at his home in Las Cruces, NM. He was born on March 11, 1948 in Silver City, NM to Augustine and Aurora Chavez.

Danny grew up in Silver City surrounded by friends, family and several cousins; eventually Danny left to join the Marine Corp. Danny served in the Vietnam War. He married Stella Leyba in 1971 in Silver City, NM. Danny worked for the Las Cruces Detention Center and retired after 37 years. Together they had 2 children. He enjoyed music; going to the Downtown Plaza to listen to the music festivals.  He played the guitar and enjoyed going to the gym.

Daniel is survived by his ex-wife, Stella Leyba of Denver, CO his daughter’s, Venecia Chavez of Aurora, CO and Priscilla Chavez of Denver, CO; his mother Aurora Chavez. Other survivors include his grandchildren,  Isaac Chavez and Breanna Shinney; one great granddaughter, Jada Lynn; his brothers,  Mike Chavez of Silver City; Raymond Chavez of Silver City; his sisters; Josie Sanchez and husband Ernie of Las Cruces;  Christina Placencio and husband Nick of Silver City; Susie Munoz and husband Manuel of Silver City and Mary Francis Garcia of CA; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Rosary being recited by Deacon Bill Holguin will be held Friday, June 12th at 10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels.  The funeral mass will follow at 11:30am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Oliver Obele officiating.  Concluding service and interment will take place at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be JT Sanchez, Mike Chavez, Raymond Chavez, Manuel Muñoz, Brady Shinney, and Jimmy Joe Miranda.  Honorary pallbearer will be Nick Placencio.  Restrictions with the COVID-19 limits 25% capacity with social distancing and face masks are required.

Sally Crespin Armijo, 81, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, June 4, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born October 3, 1948 in Trujllo, NM to Abenicio Crespin and Adelmira Gonzales Crespin. She is survived by two daughters, Lorrie Guerra and husband Henry of Silver City; Jacqueline Haden and husband Roger of Silver City; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tony Lucero Armijo (‘2011); her son, Richard Armijo; her daughter, Kathi Ann Morales; her great grandson, Michael Maria; and great-granddaughter, Candi Marie Morales.

​Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory
