Karen Lynn Decker, 63, Deming resident passed away Sunday October 29, 2017 at Willow Manor in Deming, NM. No service will take place as were her wishes. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory. Karen was born April 27, 1954 to JoAnn Stock and Jackie Warren Barton in Farmington, New Mexico. She spent most of her teen years in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from the Practical Nursing School. Karen moved to Bloomfield, NM in 1976 and was employed with Giant Refinery for many years until her retirement in 2005. She reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Daniel Decker in 2008 and moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin until his death in 2014 when she relocated to Deming, NM to be near her mother. She loved traveling, shopping, dancing, art projects and most of all spending time with her family. She will forever be remembered as a loving and trusting person. She is survived by her father, Jackie W. Barton and his wife Nita Jo of Flora Vista, NM; her mother, JoAnn Barton of Deming, NM; daughters, Dianna Kay Scruggs and Katherine Lynn Madison both of Tucson, AZ, Leticia Joy Ryno of Deming, NM, Tamara Leigh Martinez of Las Cruces, NM; son, Antonio “Tony” Joseph Ramos of Deming, NM; sisters, Patricia Salazar and husband Chris of Clifton, CO, Debora “DJ” Nelson and husband Tom of Deming, NM; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary Ann Miller, 56, a resident of Deming, NM went to be with the lord on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Providence Sierra Hospital in El Paso, TX. Mary Ann was born on November 12, 1960 to Estanislado Gonzales and Frances Padilla in Deming, NM. Mary Ann was a beautiful person with a heart of gold. She was always putting others needs before her own. She was a Loving, giving, and caring person. Her honesty is what most people will remember her by. She loved her kids & grandkids they were her world! She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Tidey; three sons. Skeeter Miller of Deming, NM; Nathan Tidey of Deming, NM and David Tidey of Deming, NM; three daughters, Sandra Uzueta and her husband David of Deming, NM; Rhonda Miller of Deming, NM and Celeste Vigil and her husband Joseph of Deming, NM; nine brothers, Raymond Gonzales and his wife Maria of Albuquerque, NM; Luis Almanza and his wife Rosa of Rio Rancho, NM; Steve Duran of Deming, NM; Albert Almanza and his wife Sandi of Redlands, CA; Arturo Almanza and his wife Jaime of Colorado Springs, CO; Philip Almanza of Deming, NM; Jesus Padilla of Deming, NM; Dennis Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM and Daniel Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM; five sisters, Laura Almanza and her husband George Gutierrez of Deming, NM; Elizabeth Almanza of Deming, NM; Dolores Almanza of Deming, NM; Jenny Padilla and her companion Chris of Tucson, AZ and Teresa Padilla of Silver City, NM; and fourteen grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; one son, Gabriel Gonzales; two daughters, Sean Murillo and Jennifer Zielenger; two brothers, Estanislado Gonzales Jr. and David Almanza. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 10-11am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. The funeral service will then begin at 11am with Pastor, George Gillespie officiating. Cremation will then take place at Terrazas Crematory. An inurnment will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11am at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels & Crematory. Helen Gonzales Reade Dominguez 96, lifelong resident of Deming, New Mexico passed away October 15, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Helen was born in San Geronimo, New Mexico on October 22, 1920, to Juan Gonzales and Tranquilina Roybal. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Tony Reade, companion, Pete Dominguez, sister Matilda Tillie Marquez, brother Luciano Gonzales, granddaughter Louri Reade, and two great-grandchildren Felicia and Antonio Reade. Helen and Tony were married in Las Vegas, New Mexico on June 15, 1938. Helen was a good mother, who always saw to our needs, a great homemaker and worked many years as a waitress at the Bell Shore, and La Fonda, besides other restaurants, where she was an excellent waitress. Helen enjoyed and loved having her family around her, and leaves behind family that loved her very much. Helen is survived by four children; Fred Sr., deceased wife Priscilla (Pat Duran), Rosemary Reade Ferrell, deceased husband, William Franklin, Gloria A. Reade Sawyers, husband, Robert H. (Buddy), Mary Helen Dominguez Holguin, husband George. Louie Garcia, was a neighbor who since he was a child considered Helen as his grandmother, so he became part of the family. Helen had twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren. When Helen became ill, she was very well cared for by her daughter Rosemary Reade Ferrell, granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Ferrell (Liz) and her husband Marvin Weinrick, until the very end. The family also wants to thank Kay Linda Midgett, who was her care giver when needed. Also to all the other people who helped, plus the Hospice of Deming for being there until she passed away. They were very comforting. There will be a celebration of Helen’s life at Holy Family Church starting at 10 o’clock in the morning November 11, 2017, with Father Ronald Machado officiating the Rosary and Mass, following inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming, New Mexico. Cruz Duran Ochoa, 90, passed away peacefully accompanied by his children Tuesday October 24, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces. Visitation will begin Friday afternoon, October 27th at 3 o’clock at the Holy Family Catholic Mission in Columbus where a prayer vigil will begin at 5 that evening led by Velia Yañez. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at the Holy Family Catholic Mission with Fr. Ron Machado officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Valley Heights Catholic Cemetery. Cruz was born January 23, 1927 to Paula Ochoa and Cruz Duran in Ascencion, Chihuahua, Mexico. He moved to Columbus in 1992 coming from Mexico. He worked as a laborer in the agriculture industry and was a communicant of the Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Cruz will be dearly missed. He is survived by his sons, Hector Duran of Columbus, Victor Alonso Duran of Mexico, Jaime Duran of Las Cruces; daughters, Luz Alicia Sanchez of Columbus, Etelvina Au of Las Cruces; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Cruz and Paula Duran, wife, Soledad Duran and his siblings. Martinez, 93, a longtime resident of Deming passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 10-11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The funeral service will then begin at 11am with Bishop, David Wertz officiating. Concluding services with an interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Rick Baca, Ricky Baca, J.J. Martinez, Andrew Avalos, Sammy Gavaldon and Diego Quintana. Ramon was born on July 24, 1924 in Anthony, NM to Manuel and Camila Martinez and was raised in the Hatch area. He was a hard worker and enjoyed being with family and friends. He also liked to garden and to fix lawnmowers. He also enjoyed going to baseball games and joke around with everyone. He always thought of others first and was generous to family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Baca and her husband Rick of Deming, NM; one son, Johnny Joe Martinez and his wife Angela of Las Cruces, NM; seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Cecilia T. Martinez; one son, Donnie T. Martinez; one brother, Jose Q. Martinez and two sisters, Carmen M. Avalos and Jessie M. Gavaldon. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels. PAULA DEANNE HIBNER, 63, passed away Friday October 20, 2017 in the comfort of her home. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Mason Davis officiating. Cremation has taken place at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory. Paula was born October 20, 1954 in Deming to James and Aletta (Bishop) Yates. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education at New Mexico State University. Paula was a teacher, specializing in Special Education, and taught at several different schools, including Sunshine Elementary School, Martin Elementary School and Hofacket Mid High in Deming, as well as at Zia Jr. High in Mesilla. Paula was instrumental in founding My Little School, where she served as teacher and administrator. Paula was also a Special Education Coordinator with the Deming Public Schools for eight years. Most recently, Paula taught several classes at Western New Mexico University. She was an active member of the Deming Kiwanis Club, serving previously as club President, and for a term as the district’s Lieutenant Governor. Paula was active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, leader of the Girls in Action and Mission Friends groups, member of the choir, and a host of other charitable and mission activities. Paula is survived by her husband, Philip Hibner of Deming; sons, Darby Hibner and his wife Stephanie of Las Cruces, Myles Hibner of Albuquerque, Nicklaus Hibner of Merrill, Wisconsin; daughters, Jody Eubanks and her husband J. Keith of Midland, TX, Melanie Maximovich and her husband Marc of Moses Lake, WA, Christalle Hibner of Albuquerque; her parents, James and Aletta Yates of Deming; brother, James Yates and his wife Shelly of Garden City, KS; sister, Donna Whitehead and her husband Mike of Roswell; and 6 grandchildren (Robbie, Valerie, Emily, Finnian, Soledad, and Jimmy). Visitation will be Thursday morning at 9 at St. Ann Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 10 o’clock to be led by Suzanne Lundy. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery with military honors accorded. Alfredo was born December 3, 1931 in Deming to Juan and Trinidad (Chaires) Turrieta. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and in 1961 he went to work with the Deming Fire Department in which he was the Assistant Fire Chief. He always enjoyed painting and throughout his life he painted many houses locally. He is remembered as being a very organized person who had a passion for doing things right. Being the kind of person he was, he always thought of others first and was generous to his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He is survived by his wife, Olga C. Turrieta of the home; son Alfredo Turrieta Jr. of Albuquerque; daughter Anna Priestley and her husband Ron of Las Cruces; sister Estella Baese and her husband Ray of Deming; his granddaughter Jakki Gallegos and her husband Diego; 2 great granddaughters Rauni and Jordynn Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Johnny Turrieta and sister Trini Baeza. Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Howard “Butch” Johnson, 58, Deming resident passed away Tuesday October 10, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces. Visitation was Wednesday afternoon, October 11, 2017 at 4 o'clock at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil began at 6 o’clock led by Guillermina Macias. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o’clock Thursday morning at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Father Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating. Butch, as he was affectionally known, was born March 8, 1959 in Washington D.C. His favorite pastime was rebuilding classic cars. He enjoyed riding his bike and motorcycle. Butch was a communicant of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his companion, Maria Montes of Deming; daughter, Stephanie Johnson of Deming; step-daughter, Josie Montes of Las Cruces; step-son, Hugo Vargas of Deming; brothers, Buddy Gavino Jr., and Lee Rey of Maryland; sister, Irene Ann Patterson of Baytown, Texas.
