Steven M Hobbs, 63, of Deming, NM, passed from this life to eternal life on October 22, 2021. Steve was born on February 27, 1958 to William I (Bill) and Berna L (Bernie) Hobbs in Deming, NM.

Steve graduated from Deming High School in May 1976. During high school he worked at Southside Market, he always said working for Von Rue Crawford was the best job he ever had. After graduating from high school, Steve went on to work at numerous jobs, Columbus Electric Co-op, El Paso Gas Company, El Paso Electric and Deming Aerostat, until he settled on a career with the government. He retired in April 2019 from the Federal Aviation Administration; he was a technician for the FAA for 28 years.

Steve married Tracey D Shirley, the love of his life on April 30, 1988. They went on to have three children, Mandi Charles Hobbs of Kansas, Kenna Dawn Barnes (Justin) of Deming, NM and Jacob Lee Hobbs (Dana) of Las Cruces, NM and four grandchildren, Makenzie and Lincon Barnes, Gavin Way and Wyatt Hobbs. The grandbabies were the light of his life and he was teaching them to enjoy life just like he always did.

Steve grew up at the 9th Street Church of Christ and later joined the First Baptist Church of Deming where he attended and taught youth classes for several years. He also served on the Deming School Board for six years, which he really loved and hoped to make a difference for our children and community. Steve loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel and just hang out with the family. Out of all the vacations he took, Hawaii was his favorite. Steve never met a stranger and he loved to laugh. Nothing sounded better than to hear his laughter.

Steve is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Rick Hobbs (Kim Valenzuela) of Lordsburg NM, Mike Hobbs of Deming NM, Phil Hobbs (Kristie) of Deming, NM and Gerald Anderson (Sandra) of Richland, WA and one sister Pamela Christopher (Russ) of Richardson, TX. Steve is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alice Shirley of Deming, NM, sister-in-law Kim Grant of Los Lunas, NM and brother-in-law, David Shirley (Liberty) of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were both of his parents and Father-in-law, Charles Shirley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be celebrated on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Pit Park Amphitheater, Deming NM. In lieu of flowers, Steve requested donations be made to NM Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.

Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematory.

My deepest condolences to Shirley and the family. This is unbelievable. When Tim called to share the news, I was in shock to say the least. His laugh was infectious, he made everyone around him feel good. He was an awesome guy with a heart of gold. We had so many good times with Steve while we were married, and the friendship between him and Tim continued up until his passing. They were very close first cousins. We are so sad that he left this earth, but we are rejoicing that he is in the presence of the Lord. May God bless him and keep him. Until we meet again Steve. ❤️🙏😘

I worked breifly with Steve in the FAA. He was one the most enjoyable guys to work with. No matter the task, he always kept a smile and lifted one's spirit when things got rough. The FAA has lost a Giant of a Technician.
See you i Heaven brother.
