On Friday December 9th 2016 at 3pm in the afternoon, at Mountain View Cemetery her ashes will be placed with her most beloved grandmother, Ellen Judith Collins, who was her mentor and inspiration in life and death.
Sharon was born April 26th 1951 in Deming New Mexico. She was proceeded in death by her mother Mable Ellen Parnell, her father Charles Robert Hicks and her older brother Charles “Chuck” Robert Hicks.
She loved all animals and nature. She was a mother to four and a “Momma” to many. Neighborhood kids would call her Mom or Momma Sharon. On many occasions, she would take in a child or a person in need. A transient or teen runaway, was treated as an adopted son or daughter. At the time of her passing she was providing a home to a handicapped life-long friend, whom she affectionately called her “little brother”.
She helped the poor and the sick regardless of their situation and somehow Sharon always made sure that her own children had enough food and plenty of love. She loved her children with all her heart, but for Sharon all family was important. “Family is family,” she would say. Distant cousins by marriage? they were family.
As per Sharon’s request there will be no viewing or big ceremony. She asked that everyone remember and honor her in their own way.
She is survived by her four children: Jerry Hernandez, 50, of Santa Barbara, California, Benito Hernandez, 48, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sarah Kucera-Holiday, 45, of Deming, New Mexico, and Gary “Steve” Kucera, 42, of El Paso, Texas. Sharon is survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and all those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity, food bank, or local animal shelter in the name of Sharon Hicks.
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
