e is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Carol (nee Fassett). Pete was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Cabot, Vt. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-56. In 1958, he and Carol moved to Massachusetts where Pete worked at the Smith Farm in West Boylston, the Howland Farm in New Braintree and Salem Bros. Transport in North Brookfield. He retired from Chase Precast in 1998. He enjoyed another 17 years working with Phil Jurczyk of Jurczyk Contracting in Gilbertville, Mass. Pete and Carol moved from New Braintree to Bayard in 2015. He worked for a few memorable years with Ron Edwards at Septic Solutions. Pete reveled in the sun and warmth. When he finally retired, he took pleasure in regular walks with the dogs on the mesa, daily phone visits with his brother, Jerry, and, like clockwork, Sunday calls from his deck recliner to family and friends near and far. Pete was a hard and happy worker, a reliable and well-respected longtime treasured friend and neighbor. He would offer the shirt off his back to strangers, a beacon of goodness, humility and optimism. His departure leaves a true void in the hearts and minds of many. Pete leaves six children, Ellen Robbins of Bayard, Allen of Easley, S.C., Cindy Morse (Edward) of Russellville, Ky., Sandy Killough (David) of Greenville, S.C., Linda Grace of Brunswick, Ga., and Brian (Robin) of Piedmont, S.C. He had one infant son, Hayden Oliver, who predeceased him in 1957. He leaves five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerry, of Richland, Wash., a sister, Elsie, of Cheshire, Mass.; and a cousin, Nettie, of Cabot, Vt. There will be no calling hours. Pete’s remains will be rested at the convenience of the family.
Mr. Oliver Perry will be laid to rest at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, Burial of Cremains with Honors will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:00am.
