Margie was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico, the middle child of Isaac and Ola Mae. Margie had an older sister, Dorothy, and a younger brother, Bill (Sonny). When she was very young, the family moved to Bayard, where Margie spent the rest of her long life. The family established the Hub Variety Store in Bayard, and Margie was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
Margie graduated from high school and worked for the family at the Hub until she met and married Robert Lee Saunders. Bob (Robert) and Margie were kind and devoted parents to their daughter, Ola Jean. Margie was a devoted Mother, an adoring Grandmother, a faithful wife, a meticulous homemaker, and a good neighbor, who watched with intelligent interest as the world around her changed and grew. As the world changed, she maintained a stable and loving home for her family, and was pleased when family and friends stopped by for a visit. She was always happy to stop and talk to the people in the town she loved. The world may have changed, but she remained a steady and loving hand throughout her many years.
Above all, Margie loved her family, and was always ready to help with whatever they needed. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, brother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins and many of her friends. She is survived by her daughter, her granddaughter Elena, and her grandson Eric. She is also survived by her younger cousins and their families, and by the loving nieces and nephews she and Bob shared, as well as by dedicated friends and neighbors. Margie led a good, honest, loving life. She will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be celebrated Friday, November 12th at 12noon at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor Joseph Gros officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
