Manuel V. Renteria

​Loving greetings to our family and friends as we announce the passing of our beloved Manuel V. Renteria at the age of 97.  A lifelong resident of Lordsburg, Manuel passed on peacefully at Ft. Bayard Medical Center, Saturday July 15, 2017 with family and loving caregivers at his side.
 
Visitation for Manuel will be held Friday morning, July 21, 2017, beginning at 9 o’clock at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lordsburg followed by recitation of the rosary led by Mrs. Alice Ramirez.  The Catholic Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated thereafter at 11 o’clock in the morning with the Reverend Jude Okonkwo as celebrant.  The Rite of Committal and interment will ensue at Shakespeare Cemetery with Veteran Honors accorded. A funeral reception is to be held at the Elks/Lodge following the burial.
 
The pallbearers include: grandsons, Dr. Michael Orona, Roman Orona, Jay Arredondo, Manny Renteria II, Ruben Renteria, Nicholas Renteria; great-grandson, Anthony Renteria and nephew, Ray Renteria. Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons: Timothy Renteria and Danny Renteria Jr.; nephews, Rene Saucedo and Richard Renteria. 
 
Manuel was born in Valedon, New Mexico on March 31, 1920 to Bernardo Renteria and Petra Varela Renteria.  Following his return from Okinawa during WWII, Manuel married his loving wife Romelia (Romi) España-Renteria with the marriage having lasted a full 71 years to his death.
 
Manuel’s surviving family include his wife, “Romi”; 3 daughters: Dora Martinez (Jesus), Barbara Arredondo (Jimmy), Esther Orona (Joel); 2 sons, Manny Renteria Jr. (Donna), Jimmy Renteria (Elizabeth) and one brother, Ernesto (Neto) Renteria and his wife Ernie Renteria.  Manuel’s family also includes ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 
 
Preceded in death by Manuel were his devoted parents, Bernardo and Petra, eight brothers, one sister and one infant child David. 
 
Manuel was a loyal member of the Lordsburg VFW Post 3099, Elks Lodge, Montezuma Catholic Men’s Club and L.U.L.A.C. civil rights organization.  He faithfully served and was a devotee of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Lordsburg.  Manuel’s devotion to his loving family, his community, friends and relatives was unequivocally demonstrated throughout his life bearing all difficulties, responsibilities and undertakings with an exacting spirit of affection, devotion, and great consideration, thereby, fulfilling a lifelong commitment of service.  The family of Manuel extend a warm welcome and are eternally grateful to everyone for their expressions of kindness during this most imomentous time in their lives.
