Manuel C. Tovar

Manuel C. Tovar, 81, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Silver City Care Center. He was born December 10, 1938 in Hanover, NM to Juan Tovar and Regina Carrillo Tovar. He was born and raised in Hanover, NM. He graduated from Cobre High School, lived in Lancaster, CA and returned home to retire in Grant County. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force. He was a Morris Code Interpreter for 3years in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam Era. Manuel retired in 1994 from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, where he was a produce Clerk supervisor for 12 different stores in California and worked for the grocery industries for 26 years. He loved his yearly hunting adventures with his family and friends. He also like to fish and enjoyed being outdoors working on his yard. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by two brothers, Alex Tovar and wife Bernadette of Bayard; Danny Tovar and wife Dora of Bayard; two sisters, Rita Montoya and husband Bennie of Belen, NM; Mary Mendoza of Oak Park, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Michelle Ann Tovar; three brothers, Onecimo, Juan, and Tomas Tovar; two sisters, Soledad Legarda and Elisa Curry.

The holy rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 24th at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Martin Okonkwo reciting. The funeral mass will follow at 11:30am with Father Martin officiating.

Corona Virus restrictions are at 25% capacity with face masks and social distancing required. Concluding service and interment will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers are Daniel Tovar, Rudy Legarda, Alex Tovar Jr., Alejandro Tovar III, and Bobby Candelaria.

​Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.
