Lewis Reese Springer, 87, of Silver City, NM was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away peacefully in Tucson, AZ, Monday evening March 2, 2020. Lewis always fought valiantly to recover quickly from any surgery, but complications from a surgery earlier this year were just too difficult.
Lewis was born in Miami, AZ, spent his youth in Santa Rita, NM and El Paso, TX. He graduated from El Paso High School, attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and his master’s degrees from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces. Lewis was married twice. With his first wife Janice Mosby Springer, he had four children. He was married again in Silver City to Rosalyn “Roz” O’Connell Springer. Lewis worked as an aerospace designer in his early career, started and owned a medical billing service company, and finished his career as a software manager for Northrop in Thousand Oaks, CA. He retired and moved to Silver City in 1994 with Roz, where they built a home and shared a wonderful life. Lewis had many hobbies and activities (tennis, bridge, sailing, kayaking, wood working); but his most cherished thing in life was his family. His children will miss their daily phone calls to him where he loved to discuss politics and hear about their everyday activities. Lewis’s children and grandchildren will especially miss holidays and visits spent with him at his home on the hill overlooking Silver City.
Lewis is survived by his wife Roz, his children Karen Martin (John Martin), Lewis Springer III, Christopher Springer (Dana Springer), Lynne Springer, Nikki O’Connell (Chris Muise) and Barbara Raffkind; his grand-children Katelyn Martin, Nick Virus, Jessica Vermillye (John Vermillye), Erika McCaffrey (Kyle McCaffrey), Mikaela Springer and Lewis Reese Springer IV, John Martin (Heather Martin) and Dawn Martin; his great grand-children Jillian, Juliette and Joel Vermillye, and twins Killian and Rowan McCaffrey, Jacob and Brooklyn Martin; brother Roy Springer (Diane Springer) and former wife Janice Springer.
A Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels 1 Ft. Bayard Rd. Santa Clara, NM 88026.
Concluding service and interment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lewis Springer III, E. Christopher Springer, Scott Nichols, Chris Muse, Chuck Wenzel, and Mark Johnson.
