Leroy J. Cohn, 83, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his residence.

He was born April 3, 1937 in Youngsville, NM to Frank Cohn and Bernie Lopez Cohn. Mr. Cohn worked many years of long days and extra shifts to support a large family. He was a very independent, strong-willed man whom had a well-established reputation in his community and on the worksite. Mr Cohn started his career as an apprentice/oiler with the Operating Engineers Union and quickly mastered the art of operating all types of equipment. He became a very well-known, skilled Bulldozer Operator and highly-regarded Crane Operator with the Operating Engineers Union and the Army Core of Engineers. He played a key part while working with the Army Core of Engineers, to build the Abiquiu Dam, Cochiti Dam, and diversion tunnels that bring water from Colorado to New Mexico.

Mr. Cohn also a long and lengthy career with the Kennecott Copper Mining Company and worked many years in the private sector running Cranes and equipment for Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, White Sands Missile Range, El Paso Crane Company, and various uranium and vanadium mines.

Mr. Cohn was a skilled horseman and cattleman in his younger years. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and skilled mechanic. He shared his skills and knowledge with sons and next generations. His grandchildren became his next passion, and he enjoyed spending time with them. He has many sayings (“dichos”) and words of wisdom which are carried through his strong name ---the Cohn Family originated in Northern New Mexico (Youngsville). He was a proud man of the Northern New Mexico heritage and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by three sons, Joseph Frank Cohn and wife Belinda of Tyrone; Errol Noel Cohn and wife Mitzi of Velarde, NM; Christopher Shawn Cohn and wife Julie Anne of Velarde, NM; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; one brother, Johnny Cohn of Albuquerque.
