John enjoyed traveling in the United States, going hunting and going routinely to the gym. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and any team from Pittsburgh. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and will be deeply missed.
John graduated high school and entered the workforce as an underground coal miner. He relocated to New Mexico and went to work for Kennecott Copper Mines. Due to economic times he went to work for the oil fields in West Texas. He next worked for SW Energy Inc., a blasting company for the local copper mines. He continued to enhance his skills and level of responsibility to the position of Plant Supervisor at which he retired in 2015. John was very active in his church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, where held positions of responsibility. With everyone John met whether it be associated with his profession or personal life they quickly exchanged respect and developed a relationship or a lasting friendship.
He is preceded in death by his father, John J. Zunich Sr., and survived by his mother, Constance Zunich; his wife of 42 years Antoinette Zunich; one brother Mick Zunich, his wife Lorraine of Silver City, NM; one daughter Yvonne Misty Madrid of Deming, NM. Four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Nephew, Jake Zunich of Silver City, NM; Nieces, Sammi Jo Zunich of Las Cruces, NM; and Cayla Zunich of Tempe, AZ.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 at Holy Family Catholic Church where the holy rosary will begin at 10:30am. Funeral mass will then begin at 11:30am with Father, Prakasham Babu officiating.
