When most Americans were trying to dodge the Vietnam War, Johnny was enlisting as a Marine Corps Scout Sniper where he earned many Awards and Medals. Johnny was a man of honor, a beloved father, brother, son, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He served his country with honor and made his family proud. His son, Richard followed his footsteps and joined the military to be just like his hero. Johnny enjoyed nothing more than celebrating life each and every day with his family. There are countless stories and memories of Johnny that will live on in our hearts forever. You could say he was the most interesting man in the world! What we will miss most about him are his famous quotes that always made you laugh. "I accept this award!" "Hi I'm Johnny Maynes" and never call him grandpa in front of chicks! His memory will live on forever and as Johnny would say, " Stay thirsty my friends."
