Joe M. Rodriguez, 78, a resident of Bayard, NM, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born “in space” (Santa Rita) on March 13, 1943, to Rufina Martinez and Jose Rodriguez. He was well known for his loving, generous heart. He was very proud to have served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Navy. He worked most of his life at the mine and worked a few years for the county before retiring. Joe married the love of his life Beatriz in 1967 and together raised four amazing children. He was a loving father but was never shy of expressing his tough love when needed. He was a very proud father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play little league and high school baseball a long side his partner in crime Jr. Valerio. He attended numerous all-star and high school state tournaments. Joe was a die-hard Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Angels fan and shared his love for sports with his grandkids. Grandpa Joe’s and Grandma Betty’s was the place to be on football Sunday where Grandma Betty would have a nice meal prepared to feed an army and Gramps would tell us all about his good old days. He loved being outdoors in God’s country where he and his family shared many memories together whether it be a fishing or hunting trip or just a nice day for a cookout at the Ft. Bayard Bataan Memorial Park where he had great pride in being a part of its construction when he worked for the county. He was a kindhearted jokester who wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved the pranks and laughter he shared with his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. His family was his world. He and Betty set the example for the family on how love, laughter, and respect was very important. Dad, Gramps, Tio, friend . . . you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Your legacy will forever be remembered and appreciated. You taught us how to work hard but to remember family is always important.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Beatriz (Betty) of 54 years; four children Joe Jr. Rodriguez (DeeAnn), Roxanne Quintana (Gabe), Robert Rodriguez, and Marisela Rodriguez; 10 grandchildren Frankie, Nanette, Vanessa, Joseph, Gabriel, Marissa, Elijah, Adrienne, Damion, and Daeven; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Rufina Martinez, sister Eva Campos, nephew David Campos and grandparents Joaquina and Sidronio Martinez.

Visitation will be Monday, July 19th from 11-11:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the funeral service to commence at 11:30am with Pastor Joseph Gros officiating.

Concluding service and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers are Frankie Morales, Joseph Rodriguez, Gabriel Quintana, Elijah Kirker, Damion and Daeven Torres. Honorary pallbearer is Rudy Valerio.

Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.
