He joined the National Guard when he was 17 yrs. old and was activated to go to the Korean War; but it was decided to keep them in Fort Bliss because of the many casualties; so, they kept them to train officers in the artillery. He would take care of the soda machines at the smelter and acid plant to sponsor Lulac scholarships. He was a treasurer for the Local 890 Steelworkers union. He loved to fish as it cost him his right arm in a boating accident 32 years ago at a Bass tournament, yet he bought a boat and continued to fish. He was an avid music lover, Dodger fan, loved his Yorkie “Kookie”. He adored all his grandchildren. He was a player and coach for the fast pitch baseball teams in Hurley. He was a lector at Infant Jesus Shrine and helped with the bereavement dinners, and taking communion to the homebound. He was a cursillista and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill Gutierrez.
