Visitation will take place Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9 to 10 o’clock in the morning, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary to be recited by Patsy Leyba at 10. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11 with Father Prakasham Babu officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10 o’clock in the morning where Military Honors will be accorded. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
James was born June 21, 1966 in Los Angeles, California to Mary Helen Carrasco and Angel R. Chavez. He served from 1985 to 1989 in the United States Air Force Academy as a food service specialist. James had many hobbies, cooking was his passion, woodworking, tinkering, cruising, lowriders, cheering on the Las Vegas Raiders, listening to music, especially music by Elvis, but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family.
James is survived by his mother; Mary Helen Carrasco-Chavez of Deming; a son Aaron James Chavez of T or C; daughters Nicole (Jaired) Gros of Morenci, AZ, Sara (Eric) Hunter, Kasandra Chavez and Alex Chavez all of Colorado; sisters Melissa Chavez of Tucson, AZ and Lorraine (Manny) Rodriguez of Deming; grandchildren Deja, Ezra, Anya, Zyla, Joseph, Silas, Vida, Anamayah and Bella; nephews Brian (Carmen) Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Marcus Lugo and niece Samantha Lugo; his former wives Dini Estrada and Anna Chavez, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father Angel R. Chavez; maternal grandparents Manuel & Elisa Carrasco and paternal grandparents Eusebio & Teodora Chavez.
Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Chavez, Brian Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Marcus Lugo, Edgar Davalos & Melissa Chavez. Honorary Bearers will be Joseph Urbanowicz and Ezra Gros.
