At the tender age of 5, his mother passed away leaving him and his younger brother Dewey to be raised by his father. Being the rebel that he was, he dropped out of school in the 7th grade. By the time he turned 17, he enlisted in the army and graduated training on December 4, 1958 in Fort Carson, Colorado. While stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, he met his young wife, Janice. They had 2-children, Leon and Elizabeth. After serving 4-yrs in the Army, he went on to become a truck driver which was the perfect occupation for him. He loved to travel and spent most of his life driving the highways. He loved fast cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, county music, cartoons and his favorite of all, food. His love of motorcycles almost brought about his demise in 2001 when he was involved in a very bad motorcycle accident. He still had a love of Motorcycles but could no longer ride or drive a semi. He loved it when his grandson Dusty or his best friend Doug Dye would pick him up to go for rides and grab a bite to eat. He eventually settled in to being a grandfather and great grandfather. Thanks to his granddaughter Cadi Fetrow (his caregiver), he was able to stay in his own home, around his family, great grandchildren and lots of animals and a lot of good food for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Leon Goodyear, mother Erma Lee Depue Goodyear, stepmother Esther Goodyear and his brother Dewey L. Goodyear. He is survived by his son Leon Goodyear and his wife Pam, his daughter Elizabeth Leonard, granddaughter Candi Fetrow and husband James, their children Cheyenne, Kara, Ty and Cooper, his grandson Dusty Goodyear, his granddaughter Samantha Goodyear and her daughter Carly (all from Deming, NM) and many nieces and nephews.
