Higinia was born on January 1, 1918 to Jose and Bernarda Hernandez in Jerome, Arizona. She enjoyed sewing quilts by hand, crocheting, needle point and was a fanatic of wrestling and Princess Diana. She selflessly cared for multiple loved ones during their time of need, including her blind mother for 22 years and her daughters during their illnesses. She was a woman of strong and unshakable faith.
Higinia is survived by her daughter, Estella (Ernesto) Casas; son, Armando (†Socorro) Martinez; step-daughter, Socorro (Angel) Gonzalez; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Bernarda; husband, Mateo Martinez; daughters, Paula (†Bill) Miller and Rosemary Porras; step-daughters, Rita Holguin, Lala DeLira, Agustina Guereque, Patsy Arenibas, Josie Parra and Carmen Maynes; step-sons, Ramon, Juan and Mateo (Pete); sisters, Camila, Paz, Elena and Inocensia (Chencha); brothers, Lupe, Enrique and Luis.
We also would like to include her caregivers who gave their time, love and dedication: Estella Casas, Glenda Sanchez, Sylvia Casas and Lorena Chavez.
She will be greatly missed for immense empathy towards others. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of family and friends.
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
