Gene Schubert, 79, entered eternal rest Wednesday December 9, 2020 at NM State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday December 18, 2020 at 10 o’clock at Holy Family Catholic Church. Fr. Prakasham Babu will officiate. The rite and committal inurnment will be at 1 PM at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Deacon Dan Peña officiating. Veterans’ honors will be accorded. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
Gene was born July 2, 1941 to Augusta Dangulisa and Alfred Kurt Schubert in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country honorably in the US Army and moved to Deming to in 1978 coming from Chicago. Gene served as Service Office and Commander for the American Legion and served as a Judge Adovcate for the DAV; he also was a member of the Elks.
He is survived by his loving wife Carmen of the home; 2 sons, Gene Schubert Jr. and his wife Yolanda of El Paso, TX, Mark Schubert and his wife Alice of Denver, CO; daughter, Dorene Gilfillen and her husband Budd Jr. of Kansas; brother, Donald Mitckess of Florida; 5 beautiful grandchildren, Budd III Gilfillen, Sarah (Michael) Paronto, Luci, Emily and Ethan Schubert.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred Kurt Schubert
