Diane was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Clarence and Eileen Swaer and adopted by Arthur and Lottie Bellack of Harper Woods, Michigan. She was the youngest of 3 sisters and 1 adopted sister.
Diane graduated from Regina High School of Harper Woods, Michigan. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Wayne State University in Special Education and Educational Psychology. She spent many years teaching and working with special children to improve their quality of life in both Detroit and Algonac Public Schools. She also had a counseling practice in Port Huron Michigan.
Diane exuded a gentle and warm confidence that made you feel comforted just to be around her. She was a wonderful mentor to both students and adults alike. Diane enjoyed and wrote tirelessly to her many pen pals both in the United States, Canada, and Australia making their lives “one letter” better.
She was a TOPS member for many years and enjoyed the comradery of the women. Diane was very creative and artistic making various crafts for both children and for the Hillsboro Christmas in the Foothills fair. She selflessly gave her time and energy to the many projects of the Hillsboro Community Center.
Even though it was discovered she had breast cancer in 2006 she lived and died on her terms. She had opportunities to travel to see friends, relatives for the next 12 years.
Diane’s absence leaves a void but her memory will live on with the people she has inspired.
Janet Krakowiak wishes to extend her sincere thank you and deep appreciation for all the expressions of sympathy and acts of kindness shown during this time of bereavement.
A memorial service to celebrate Diane Bellack’s life will be Sunday November 11, 2018 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Granite.
Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
