
Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the US Navy for 2 years. Afterward he worked for a wholesale company and Swift Meat Company in Oklahoma before moving to Silver City, New Mexico in 1951 with his wife Faye. He retired from Kennecott Copper Company with 37 years service. He is survived by his daughter Cheri Kay Layton and husband Stephen G Layton of Scappoose, Oregon; Three grandsons: Christopher A. Layton and wife Melanie of St Helens, OR; Charles A. Layton of Scappoose, OR; Jeremy D. Layton and wife Carrie of Portland, OR; Two great grandchildren; William and Madeline of St. Helens, OR. Billy is also survived by his sister Ann Foltz of Longview, Texas plus several nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his wife Faye, son, Larry Neal Hooks, sister Patsy Havelaar and his parents.
Burial will take place at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.
Cremation will take place by Terrazas Crematory.
