Beatrice Pena was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on November 15, 2020 at the age of 81.

A Rosary will be recited Monday December 7, 2020 at 11:30 am at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church led by Virginia Mast and Patty DeLaO. Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 12 pm with concluding services and interment to take place at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra will officiate. COVID 19 restrictions will be in place.

Beatrice was born on March 13, 1939 in Berino, NM to Leonor and Conrado Legarda. She grew up in Santa Rita, NM with her six siblings; Alfredo, Salvador, Rita, Lorenza, Cecilia, and Ramona.

She met her soulmate and love of her life, Abran Pena, on a blind date and were married in May of 1959. Together they moved to Deming where they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage and welcomed four children; Katherine, Jimmy, Elizabeth (Lisa), and Carol.

Beatrice worked at Goodwill and was a dedicated employee at Kmart for several years before retiring to enjoy watching her children start families of their own.

Beatrice was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She took great pride in caring for her parents in their golden years, raising children of her own, and watching her grandchildren grow up. Family events always brought her joy and she was always making us laugh.

Beatrice was a strong woman of faith and a devoted member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart. She was a beautiful woman who carried herself with class yet wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She never left the house without earrings and lipstick and was always recognized by her stunning gray hair.

Beatrice never turned down a cup of McDonald’s coffee and an apple pie. One of her fondest memories was going to eat at the Rexall Drug Store with her mom, and we take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her best friend and they are having lunch together in Heaven.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonor and Conrado Legarda, and her sister Rita Benavides.

She is survived by her husband Abran Pena; her siblings Alfredo Legarda, Salvador Legarda, Lorenza Bencomo, Cecilia Hauoli, and Ramona Gray; her children Katherine (Jesus) Lozoya, Jimmy (Elsa) Pena, Lisa (Frank) Gallosa, and Carol (Bruce Amati) Pena; her five grandchildren Vanessa, Sarah, Gabriel, Julian, and Selena; and her future great granddaughter Ava Renee.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to an extended member of our family, our mom’s loving friend and caregiver Ellie, for her compassionate care of our mom.

Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

My deepest condolences to the family .I loved Beatrice we were always close growing up and kept in touch by phone breaks my heart of her passing. Death is inevitable and we cannot do anything about it… But the good thing is that the Beatrice left us with beautiful memories to give us strength to live life in their presence.
