She was born on a Friday April 24, 1931 in Deming, NM to Federico and Apolonia (Pola) Roman. Aurora had just celebrated her birthday with her loving children, traveling within two states, and so much as staying up till 12:01 AM, to know she had made it to 90 years old, her personal goal.
“Momma”, was admired for her lifelong commitment to volunteering first as a teacher’s assistant at Bell School, working in the Nursing Home, Hospital Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary, Deming Noon Lions Auxiliary, and especially her devotion to delivering meals on wheels to countless homebound elderly. She earned her “Golden Angel Jacket” status after over 19 years of service to the Deming Senior Center, and was always able to share a kind word to uplift Deming’s shut-ins. She will be missed by all, including her card group ladies, bingo partners and anyone else that knew her keen sense of humor, that was the cornerstone of how she kept all of her 8 children not for want.
Aurora will be deeply rewarded for her loving deeds. She was proceeded in passing by the late Marin Morales Sanchez, who was a muched loved musician and city councilman; her brother, Arturo Roman.
She is survived by her children, Celia (the late Hoss Hillman), Marin (Isabel), Mario, Freddie (Janet), Felix, Johnny (Monica), Javier (Rosa), Esperanza (Fernie) and stepson, George Holguin (Mary). Aurora had 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and as was her wish, cremation has taken place at Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
