Ann Gulley Wooley, 88, passed away on September 13, 2023 after a heroic battle with many health issues. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her sleep in a care facility in Truth or Consequences, NM.

Ann was lovingly called “Grandma,” “Ma Maw,” and “Mee Maw.”

Known for her determined spirit and deep love for her family, Ann will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Ann’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.

Ann was born September 26, 1934 in Pearsall, TX to Edgar H. Gulley, Sr. and Margaret Shuford Gulley. Her birth was extra special, as it included the birth of her twin brother, Edgar H. Gulley, Jr.

As a child, Ann enjoyed learning to play the piano, learning to sew, and began developing a beautiful singing voice.

Ann was married to Walter Wayne Wooley from 1950 to 1979, and in such years they had and raised their family.

Ann had an illustrious career at Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, in San Angelo, TX from 1975 to 1996. At Ethicon, one of Ann’s primary jobs was to process and package suture material, which was used to save animals and humans alike.

Ann was devoted to God and her Savior, Jesus Christ, and worshiped faithfully through the Baptist Church. She was a gifted piano player and had a magnificent singing voice, which she blessed many congregations with through participation in the church choir.

Ann took splendor in any time with her family and was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Ann was deeply dedicated to and cared for her only daughter, Janice, during her long battle and death due to cancer in 2004.

After moving to Deming, NM in 2012, she loved taking long road trips with friends, exploring New Mexico towns and often visiting San Angelo. She was joyful in her independence and made many friends in Deming. Ann enjoyed volunteering at the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum for several years.

Ann was an animal lover and found great joy in visiting her son Robert’s dog, Kira, and often fed and cared for stray cats.

Ann is survived by her twin brother, Edgar H. Gulley, Jr. of Magnolia, TX, her sister, Mary Cline Putska of Montgomery, TX, her sons, Robert Wooley of Deming, NM and Greg Wooley and his wife, Kathy, of St. George, UT, her grandchildren, Steve Wooley of Los Angeles, CA; Shelby Bradberry and her husband, Britton, of Silver City, NM; Kevin Kelly and his wife, Sara, of Magnolia, TX; Taylor Henry and her husband, Dylan, of Manhattan, KS; Jacob Wooley and Stevie Wooley of St. George, UT, and Billy Reider of Kingwood, TX. She is survived and was admired by many great-grandchildren: Savannah and Brooklyn Wooley, Baron and Easton Bradberry, her namesake, Ann Kelly, Emily Kelly, and Rhett and Ayla June Henry.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar H. Gulley, Sr. and Margaret Shuford Gulley, an infant sister, Katherine Margaret Gulley, brothers, Robert A. “Bobby” Gulley and David Cline, her daughter, Janice Kelly, and her grandson, Kirk Kelly.

A memorial ceremony for Ann will be held at Bethel Baptist Church ~ 700 S. 8th St. in Deming, NM, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 am.

Memorial gifts are not necessary, but welcomed if friends would like to donate to The New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home, as supporting these children was one of Ann’s life passions.
