Good News from DAGSHIP Rescue

2/28/2023

Our members/friends meeting on March 18 at 11 am has two interesting speakers on the agenda.....Dr. Cole Wenzel will speak on local animal diseases and the future of veterinary medicine and Mike Reitz of DAGSHIP Rescue will be telling us about DAGSHIP's upcoming participation in the PAWS dog training program at Southern NM Correctional Facility.  Yes, we're sending some of our dogs in need of intensive socialization to jail!  We think they'll love all the attention and come back to DAGSHIP as Rock Stars.

One of our wonderful kitten foster caregivers noticed that her neighbor was leaving a mama dog and her two small pups outdoors in the brutally cold weather; she spoke with the neighbor who no longer wanted the dogs and asked for help.  Within 2 weeks of coming to DAGSHIP, mama Rosa was adopted by snowbirds from Canada, puppy Archie was adopted by a snowbird from Washington and Jughead was transferred to Animal Rescue of the Rockies.  And all of this happened within two weeks!

Our little Jingle Bells continues to improve from hip fracture surgery.

LAS CRUCES- A Las Cruces man was arrested and accused of assaulting and pointing a firearm at his ex-girlfriend.

KFOX in El Paso reported that officers arrested 20-year-old Jairo Luna on Wednesday.

Officers were called out to the 3200 block of E University Avenue on a call of a person with a gun.

When officers arrived at the scene they met with two women who said Luna pointed a rifle and they thought they would get shot.

After the two women were threatened a third woman identified as Serenity Jacobs-Locklear who is Luna's ex-girlfriend was threatened by Luna.

Jacobs-Locklear was forced into the apartment and was not allowed to leave, according to the affidavit.

One of the other two women called 911. Luna and Jacobs-Locklear dated for two years but ended their relationship in December 2022.

The two women had driven Jacobs-Locklear to Luna's apartment so she can gather her belongings which she said were by the front door.

Shortly after arriving, Luna pointed the gun toward her, according to the arrest affidavit.
After pointing the firearm at her, Jacobs-Locklear saw Luna step outside of the apartment, manipulated the firearm and pointed the firearm towards the parking lot the document stated.
Jacobs-Locklear said she thinks Luna pointed the gun at her two other friends while they were sitting and waiting in the vehicle.

After pointing the firearm at the parking lot, Luna went back inside and pushed Jacobs-Locklear onto the couch and placed his hands over her nose and mouth and told her to shut up and not say anything, according to the arrest affidavit.

Jacobs-Locklear told investigators it was hard for her to breathe because he held her nose and mouth for about three minutes, the affidavit stated.

The document stated that Jacobs-Locklear was locked up in Luna's apartment for about 20 minutes until officers arrived.

Luna is charged with battery against a household member, aggravated assault against a household member, aggravated battery against a household member, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
