PictureDAGSHIP photo: Rico
DEMING – The following is the recent newsletter from DAGSHIP rescue.

Despite cold and rainy weather, our Members & Friends meeting was held last Saturday.  In addition to an address by Dr. Cole Wenzel on the state of veterinary medicine, we also heard from City Council member Mr. Joe (Butter) Milo.

Twelve cats made the trip to Watermelon Ranch in Rio Rancho last week.  Following a request for cats to be transferred to them, Chrystal (DAGSHIP shelter director) procured 10 cats from the Deming-Luna County Humane Society.  Within 4 days she prepped 7 of the 10 Humane Society cats, added 5 of our DAGSHIP cats, made sure all were current on vaccines and free of disease, got the paperwork together, found a transport driver  and sent them on their way.   Here they are after being loaded into the transport driver's car for the trip early last Thursday morning.

We want to share an amazing transition.  Rico was transferred from the Deming Humane Society Shelter.  Thanks to the skills of Mike, the board member who oversees DAGSHIP, Rico was transformed and has already found a home when he's ready to go.

Construction ongoing at the Old KMart building to house city hall.
DEMING – There is a lot of buzz around what’s happening at 1205 E Pine Street in Deming.

Communities around the country are seeing empty K-Mart buildings disintegrating where once busy commerce areas existed.

So, the City of Deming decided to purchase the K-Mart property to redevelop it and add value to the community.

The property is approximately 90K sq. ft. By the end of the year, approximately 36K sq. ft. of that property will become the new City Hall offices. Mayor Benny Jasso told Deming Radio News that, “We really wanted to make City Hall more inclusive, accessible, and useful to our constituents while also providing a secure place for community happenings.”

The other approximated 60K sq. ft. of the building will be utilized for business development. There has been increased interest from retail developers, as well as mixed-use space.

Deming officials said that they hope to make those announcements soon.

Deming City Administrator Aaron Sera said that, “The new city hall will include space for children to play while their parents or guardians are applying for a business license or conducting other city business.”

City officials said that they were expecting to have the new city offices open in the next few months.
