SILVER CITY - A workshop to construct and fill a bioreactor composter will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 12 noon to 5:00 pm at the Future Forge located at 307 E. College Ave. in Silver City, NM. The Upper Gila Watershed Alliance (UGWA) is co-hosting the event with the Future Forge and Cruces Creatives.
UGWA received an Environmental Justice for Climate grant focused on food security, soil health, carbon sequestration, and food surplus reduction. The program is building and filling Johnson-Su composters. These unique composters, developed at New Mexico State University, produce a fungal-dominated compost that can be used as an inoculant to restore degraded agricultural fields and rangelands. UGWA calls this New Earth Project both for the new soil created by the bioreactors and, more importantly, our vision for Planet Earth.
At this workshop you will learn how to build a composter and will learn about the benefits of the compost made by it.
Please register using the link below since participation is capped at 15 people. https://crucescreatives.org/event-5169101?CalendarViewType=1&SelectedDate=3/19/2023
