DEMING – After just under two hours of deliberation last week, a Luna County jury reached a verdict in the case of 59-year-old local resident Ezeqiel Ricoy, finding him guilty of the murder of Brendan Kern, formerly of Deming.
The Deming Headlight reported that District Attorney Michael Renteria announced in a press release that Ricoy was convicted on March 28th in Deming of first-degree murder, along with two counts of child abuse, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
Ricoy faces a potential life sentence for the murder charge, as well as an additional nine years for the other offenses.
The incident leading to Kern's death occurred in Luna County, south of Deming.
Ricoy's sentencing will take place at a later date, and he currently remains in custody at the Luna County Detention Center.
