LORDSBURG – Authorities made a significant discovery when a routine inspection of a Commercial Motor Vehicle passing through the Lordsburg Port of Entry revealed illicit drugs concealed within its cargo.
On April 28, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a Transportation Inspector sought assistance from NMSP after initiating a cargo inspection on a semi at the Lordsburg Port of Entry on Interstate 10.
The trailer attached to the CMV was secured with a lock, and the driver was unable to provide access.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that the trailer originated from California and was bound for Georgia. NMSP officers joined the transportation inspector to conduct a thorough cargo examination.
Upon gaining entry to the trailer, officials uncovered a minimum of 12 uniform boxes, with the first containing numerous large vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana.
The driver of the CMV was apprehended, and a search warrant was promptly secured for further investigation. The subsequent search yielded the discovery of 803 lbs. of marijuana and 73.5 lbs. of cocaine.
The Department of Homeland Security provided support in this operation and has taken charge of the legal proceedings against the driver.
At this time, no other information has been released.
