
DEMING – Deming resident Jason Diaz was stopped by New Mexico State Police on West Granite Street. Diaz refused to cooperate with officers.
The Deming Headlight is reporting that the Deming Police Department brought Diaz’s mother to the traffic stop to try to get Diaz to cooperate with the police.
Police reports state that Diaz refused to speak with officers other than to state his name, and told officers he did not have a driver’s license.
His mother told officers that Diaz might be suffering from a behavior health crisis or was intoxicated.
After over an hour standoff, police broke the vehicle’s windows and removed Diaz from the vehicle, during the scuffle, Diaz allegedly struck a Deming Police officer on the hand with a metal pipe.
Diaz was booked into the Luna County Detention Center charged with a fourth-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and aggravated assault on a peace officer using a deadly weapon. He was also charged with a third-degree felony charge of motor vehicle violations and a DWI offenses.
