DEMING - Deming Public Schools has issued a safety update regarding a threat made against Deming High School on Snapchat last night.
Upon receiving notification of the threat, High School Administration acted swiftly by contacting law enforcement, who promptly engaged with the suspect involved.
Deming Police Interim Chief Jose Montoya told Deming Radio News that the young man who’s photo was on the threat was not the one who posted it. Montoya said that the family was cooperative with the department, and the student’s room and items were searched. The student also had no access to weapons. Montoya said that investigators are now following up on clues that appear to lead to someone else who posted the threat using the child’s online photo.
In light of this incident, increased law enforcement presence was at all campuses within the district.
Deming Public Schools emphasizes the seriousness with which all threats are treated and expresses gratitude to those who promptly reported the incident. The safety and well-being of students, staff, and the community remain the top priority.
