DEMING - The New Mexico Press Association recognized the best of New Mexico’s newspaper writing, photography and advertising at the Better Newspaper Contest Banquet on Saturday in Albuquerque.
The Deming Headlight won the General Excellence award for its division, along with other newspapers such as Albuquerque Journal, Roswell Daily Record, and Taos News.
The NMPA 114th Annual Convention handed out the awards after judging the contest by the Arizona Newspaper Association.
The Deming Headlight staff also won awards in various categories.
Headlight Editor Algernon D’Ammassa received First Place for Editorials and for feature writing and Second Place for Environmental or Agricultural writing.
Sportswriter Billy Armendariz won First Place for Sports Columns and Best Sports Coverage.
Anna Loya earned Second Place for Columns.
