DEMING – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at ports of entry in the El Paso area successfully intercepted a substantial haul of illicit drugs, totaling 291 pounds, over the course of a week. The seizure included methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana.
On January 23, at the Columbus port of entry in Columbus, New Mexico, CBP officers made a significant interception, discovering 55.55 pounds of methamphetamine.
The seizure followed a CBP canine alert and a thorough inspection, revealing multiple bundles of methamphetamine concealed within the gas tank of a vehicle. The driver, identified as a 19-year-old male Mexican citizen, was subsequently arrested by CBP officers.
The detained individual has been handed over to Homeland Security Investigations, and/or relevant state and local authorities for prosecution.
