Library board members serve as representatives for the interests and needs of the community regarding the services provided by the library. The library board is entrusted by the community to make sure that the library is functioning the way it should.
The Marshall Memorial Library was founded in 1917 as the Deming Public Library by the Library Association, a branch of the Deming Women's Club. Its most recent home is the Garcia Civic Center at 110 S. Diamond Street. The Museum is funded by the City of Deming, Luna County, the Board of Education, and Deming Public Schools. It is governed by an advisory board consisting of appointees from each of the public agencies supporting the Library and members of the public and is run by a Library Director hired by the board. The board advises and recommends policies for the library and monitors operations to ensure that it is run professionally and responsibly.
