DEMING – The City of Deming's city hall is now open to the public in its new facility following a quick three-day transition. The move, initiated on September 28, 2023, was necessitated by the growing needs of our community.
Mayor Benny Jasso shed light on the challenges faced by the city over the years. "As our city has grown, so have the services we offer and the departments responsible for them," he said. The previous city hall building became insufficient to accommodate departments, making them scattered around the block. This posed a significant inconvenience to residents, who had to walk back and forth between different locations to access various services. Jasso shared, “We've designed it as a one-stop-shop, bringing many city departments under one roof. This consolidation simplifies access to essential services in one place, saving our residents time and effort”.
Additionally, city staff and architects have taken great strides in pandemic preparedness, incorporating lessons learned from the COVID-19 outbreak into the design and operations of the new facility. The new building is equipped with additional drive-through lanes, social distancing capabilities, outdoor meeting capabilities, kiosk stations, and automated sterilization equipment (in progress), which will ensure continued service to the community, reflecting the city's commitment to the health and safety of its employees, residents, and visitors.
The City will be planning a ribbon cutting and touring event to celebrate the opening of the new City Hall building and will keep the public informed of the event dates. We look forward to seeing you all.
