DEMING – Fourteen new Luna County Detention Center officers were officially sworn in Thursday morning, during the Luna County Board of Commissioners April monthly meeting.
Municipal Court Judge Edgar Davalos administered the oath of office to the new employees.
Detention Sergeant Fabian Chairez told Deming Radio News that the new officers went through a 168-hour academy that is sanctioned by the New Mexico Association of Counties.
Among the areas of study are legal Issues, situation de-escalation, and self defense tactics. The officers had to pass a test after the training and do 30 days of on-the-job training with a field training officer.
Chairez said that the center is still hiring officers and information is available at the Human Resources Office located in the County Annex on Poplar Street across from the Courthouse park.
