DEMING - In a bid to enhance safety and improve the overall driving experience, Mountain States Constructors, Inc. has to embarked on an extensive roadway rehabilitation project along NM 549, spanning from milepost 10 to 22. Drivers are advised to prepare for temporary inconveniences while welcoming the promise of a smoother, safer journey ahead.
A spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Transportation told Deming Radio News that 549 is being upgraded and made sider and safer for when it becomes necessary to use the State Road as a detour Interstate 10 traffic. Interstate 10 traffic is often detoured onto 549 when traffic accidents and emergency situations occur. To facilitate the rehabilitation efforts, both eastbound and westbound lanes of NM 549 will experience intermittent lane closures. In a proactive measure to manage traffic flow, a temporary traffic light, accompanied by a pilot car operation, will be strategically placed. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, reduce their speed, and strictly adhere to the guidance provided by traffic control devices during these periods. Mountain States Constructors, Inc. has outlined their operational hours for the project, which are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. While the primary focus is on weekday operations, there is a possibility of some weekend work to expedite the completion of the rehabilitation project. It is expected the construction will be completed by May. DEMING - Attention, young entrepreneurs and parents alike! DEMING - The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will be monitoring roadway conditions with local law enforcement over the next several days, travel advisories for high winds and blowing dust have been issued. Roadway advisories will be posted on www.nmroads.com, or by calling 511. Advisories and Weather Forecasts • Monday, February 26, 2024, High wind advisories were issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) (impacts attached from NWS with Press Release). Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. • Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the NWS is forecasting very strong winds from 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 55 mph. The I-10 corridor could see low visibilities from blowing dust. • Wednesday, February 28, 2024, quiet weather expected for Wednesday and Thursday with increased chances for lowland rain and high mountain snow showers. Mountain snow could create slick roadways. If you must travel, we recommend you monitor local forecast conditions prior to starting your trip and visit our web site as roadway conditions may change quickly throughout New Mexico. The NMDOT would like to remind the traveling public, blowing dust can escalate to blinding dust storms as they move quickly through remote areas. If you are approaching a dust storm or caught in a dust storm, please follow the guidelines below to help you stay safe.
LORDSBURG- The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District One will begin Fog Sealing NM 90 from milepost 0 (intersection of US 70) to milepost 42 (Silver City) on Monday February 26, 2024. Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Work is expected to be completed by Spring 2024. Drivers can expect lane closures in both the northbound and southbound lanes as needed. Use caution for workers and equipment in the area, reduced speed limits with flagging and pilot car operation. Center striping will not be present in construction zones. Fog sealing helps preserve the underlying pavement structure allowing the roadway to last for many years to come. This type of maintenance treatment can be a valuable aid to renew weathered (oxidized) asphalt surfaces and improve the surface appearance, seal minor cracks, surface voids, and inhibit unraveling. It is a single application of emulsified asphalt to an existing asphalt surface. The NMDOT is committed to the safety of the traveling public and thanks you for your cooperation during this work. For updated information go to www.nmroads.com or call 511. DEMING - The Deming Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating Yvette Edwards, a missing Deming resident.
