SANTA TERESA - On Oct. 12, 2023, at approximately 11:03 p.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol Station in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, received a request for assistance from Department of Defense personnel regarding a woman in medical distress three miles east of the Santa Teresa Station.
The woman was later determined to be an undocumented migrant and citizen of Ecuador.
EMS personnel arrived at approximately 11:33 p.m. and assumed primary medical care of the woman. EMS transported her to The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus where she was admitted for further medical treatment.
The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus staff advised Border Patrol special agents that she had been admitted due to bleeding in her brain and that a care plan was being developed.
Hospital personnel advised Border Patrol agents that the woman was pronounced dead at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Oct. 22.
The El Paso County Office of the Medical Examiner advised that an autopsy would not be conducted.
The incident is under review by CBP’s OPR. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General was also notified.
