The documentary, called “The Weight of the Nation,” will be shown on two Mondays this month at the Deming Conference Center, 119 East Pine Street – this coming Monday, January 20th and the following Monday, January 27th, from 6-8 p.m. both nights.
The showing is hosted by the Luna County Healthy Kids Consumer Group, the LUNA Health Council, the City of Deming and Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
The public is invited to arrive early to enjoy healthy food samples provided by Las Cazuelas Restaurant and Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
Organizers say Luna County made some positive changes in 2013 – particularly with children entering kindergarten – but the county as a whole, they say, continues to face serious financial and quality-of-life health issues.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 25% of Luna County residents are obese, and almost 9% of Luna County residents have diabetes.
Healthy Kids Coordinator Nancy Sherman said obesity is a public health epidemic and they need to mobilize Luna County to action.
There is no charge to watch the documentary.
Again, the critically-acclaimed documentary “The Weight of the Nation” will be shown Monday, January 20th and again Monday, January 27th from 6-8 p.m. at 119 East Pine. The public is invited.
