Duncan will visit with students, school officials and the school community to discuss challenges in teaching a diverse student population which includes high-need English-language learners.
Duncan will be joined by Marco Davis, the deputy director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
Reportedly, Duncan will participate in a roundtable discussion that is closed to the media.
The visit is set to begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Columbus Elementary School, 7450 Altura Drive in Columbus.
The U.S. Secretary of Education’s visit to Columbus follows an event Tuesday morning at El Paso’s Transmountain Early College High School, located adjacent to the campus of El Paso Community College.
The media release said the El Paso school incorporates some of the core elements that the Education Department is calling for as part of its high school redesign initiative.
