24-year-old Jared Libby, 29-year-old Jake Gaston and 20-year-old Jordan Almanza were each charged with aggravated battery, aggravated burglary and conspiracy in the attack last Wednesday of a 56-year-old Deming man.
Luna County Undersheriff Arturo Baeza said the three were seen driving up to the victim’s residence off Apache Hills Road north of Deming at about 6 p.m., kicking in the front door, and then beating the resident with baseball bats.
The witness, who had been driving by when the attack began, yelled at the men to leave the victim alone, which prompted the three to get back into their grey-colored Hyundai Elantra and drive off.
The witness followed the car and dialed 911. The witness eventually lost the car but was able to give sheriff’s deputies a description of the car, down to its Texas temporary license plate.
Baeza said Libby was caught a short while later driving the Elantra. Two bats were found in the vehicle.
The investigation revealed that Gaston and Almanza were the other two involved.
The victim said the only thing missing was the Oxycodone for which he had a prescription.
The victim refused medical treatment for his injuries.
